Rubber-lipped Pleco Won't Eat Algae Wafers Or Pellets

Hello,

First time poster here. I have a rubber-lipped pleco which I have had for over a year now. He seems happy and healthy, but I always worry about him, because I never see him eat. I'm assuming he is eating algae off the sides of the aquariums or stuff off of the bottom of the tank since I see him pooping frequently, but I have never seen him gnaw on any of the algae wafers or pellets that I have ever given to him. Do some plecos just prefer eating what is found naturally in the tank?

If he’s over a year old he’s eating. he’d be dead by now if not. He’s probably just shy. Mine has his moments of “starving to death get out of my way” and “meh, don’t wanna come out” I wouldent be overly concerned unless he has a concave belly.

 

Celeste, I noticed some Rubberlip Chaetostoma-species are more / mainly Carnivorious. Godzilla (mine rubberlip) definitely is. Try some shrimppellets and bloodworm.

 

Good to know DoubleDutch. I've been trying some shrimp pellets with him, but I still have never seen him eat. I suppose it's possible he eats at night since plecos are usually nocturnal. Occasionally a blood worm makes it to the bottom of the tank, but usually they are just inhaled by my guppies. XD

I hate guppies (for that) ooooops

 

My guppiea are just obsessed with food and will nip anything to steal tiny morsels. One of them provoked a betta and got nipped in turn lol.

 

You could also feed them cucumber I atchaully did
