I have 1 rts and its not claiming land. I have 3 rocks that he can live in. Though my yoyo loach has claimed one. The rts also has a white tail he has less red than when he came. In my 20 tall. Why doesn't he take a rock? Then he have to stop swimming at the top.

Good afternoon,

Can you post a photo of the fish so we can check out the white tail.

How long have you had the Red Tail Shark? If it's new, it may need more time to adapt to its environment. Sometimes fish can change colors and or colors will fade according to their moods. Illness can also cause color changes.

Can you post readings for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH please?

Best wishes for your fish.

I have had the fish for 1 month and a week? I got my water tested a week ago. They told me to cut back on feeding so I have. But on amonia, nitrites I'm good, and ph I'm close to 7. As far as a picture I'm clueless on how to upload it.

They told you your water was fine, yet they told you to cut back on feeding? I highly recommend in getting your own liquid test kit. No test strips as they are not accurate.

My opinion is the shark isn't happy. 20 gallon tall isn't large enough for him. 55 gallon minimum. They like space and they grow 4-5". Also can get cranky as they mature especially if kept in small quarters.

How is his body color? Black or dose he look pale? Greyish.

When happy they will have a bright redish orange tail and body will be jet black.

When I had a RTS he didn't claim a cave, he spent his time out and about going from one end to the next sweeping the fake plants etc. This was in my 125g 6' tank.

Must agree you will tell if it is stressed out by its color. Also my RTS doesn't claim rocks only cave like things before I had a cave in my tank he just kind of wandered around

I'm planning on getting a 75 gallon around the holidays. His clots are, a black body and a white tail. I call him oreo because of this. I should also probably get a test kit.

Thanks for the help on uploading pictures. I'll see what I can do.

Good morning,

When I got my Rainbow Shark years ago, I had the 155g bow front tank, I didn't see the Rainbow for almost 6 months. I thought it had just disappeared then one day I found it, alive and well, hiding under some driftwood.

Now I couldn't get the fish to hide if I wanted it to. Give it more time, especially if it's a juvenile.
