RTS growth

So I have got a red tailed shark from a friend. It has been in a 40 gal tank for around 6 months but the tank was ill kept and over stalked. He asked if I wanted it and I said I would take it.... I as well have a 40 gal tank but want to take better care of the little guy. I was wondering if I keep the water clean, and feed him well will he be able to reach full size or once they have some stunted growth are they stuck at that size?

Thanks,

Tom

I have moved your thread to the RTS forum.

How big is the RTS now? Personally I would be looking for 125G sooner rather than later.

Clean water is the best medicine for fish. As stated above, you'll need a larger tank.

so pretty much just keep doing my water changes and the little guy can get to normal size. I will be getting the little one into a bigger tank but it may take a little as tanks that size in NS are rare to come by or $$$$$.
If anyone thinks of anything else to help out the little ones health please let me know.

Thanks,
Tom

Good morning,

I can't say for certain that anything will help with stunting but you're heading in the right direction giving the fish a better home with frequent water changes.

Adding Garlic Guard or garlic juice from minced garlic to the fish food two or three times a week will help to boost the fishes immune system:

minced garlic in a jar..just an example for those needing it

Making your own garlic juice recipe:
"Benefits of garlic:

Purifies blood; detoxifies; lowers cholesterol levels; lowers blood pressure; blood thinner; prevents blood clots; boost immune system; prevents heart disease and strokes; destroys cancer cells; muscle relaxant; antibiotic; antifungal; suppresses growth of tumors
Using a medium size bulb; peel cloves apart, snip off ends; microwave cloves for 5 to 10 seconds to pop hulls; remove hulls; cut the length of the cloves in thin slices; place in cup of hot (from tap) water; cover, and let sit at room temperature for 12 hrs; mash the cloves and strain for immediate use; refrigerate until needed. good for two to three weeks.
The longer the cloves soak, the stronger the solution."

The information above comes from the link below:

Vita Chem for additional vitamins added to the food and into the tank directly will give the fish additional vitamins. Follow the directions on the label:

I use both Vita Chem and Garlic Guard.

Very interesting about the garlic....
The RTS was in the other (dirty) tank for probably around 6 months, do you really think that it will affect the size now? Are you saying that the little guy may not grow any more?
