So I'm in the process of starting to treat my fishes ich. Still debating on salt. Currently got tank at 86 degrees and doing daily 50% water change. No substrate as he's in quarantine til this is cleaned up. I know his size so spare me the tank bs. Just need help because now it appears that he is either peeling skin or some sort of fungus has joined the party now too please help. I can try to get pics but he's so tense cuz of his condition I don't want to force hold him although **** allow me to do so.

Good news is he will still eat. Just not as much. Never had this much trouble with ich in my life tho. Especially with this fungus looking stuff on his top fin now. Maybe the salt is mandatory idk. Just help please.

Catfish species are exceptionally susceptible to things like fungus and ick due to not having scales. Have you tried copper yet? He doesn't look too good. So I would try salt, copper, and a fungicide. Look up his species chart to see how well he could handle them first tho. Some species can't deal with copper or salt very well while others can handle it a bit better.

The weirdest part is this tank has been cycled for 3 years with absolutely no problems until we received this catfish. Now he's got the ich and it appears there's a fungus now growing on his feces also which was never a problem with any other fish in this tank. Parameters are absolutely perfect at the moment.

Ich is present in most tanks all the time. It just usually takes a fish with a weakened immune system or one that has never been introduced to it to cause a breakout. Really all you can do is try your best to treat him. They sell some things that will help out like metaflax or stress coat and you may try garlic cloves. But look into whether or not it's sensitive to copper treatments and I would go that route because he's in pretty poor shape.

So I got recommended to do treatment with salt. Only to do like half dose cuz he's a catfish and may just die with any salt let alone the maximum.

Check his species to see how tolerant he is to salt first. Some can handle it better than others. The only reason in suggesting a copper treatment is because salt might do more harm than good, but the same would be true with copper as well.

That's why I asked on here. I can't find their tolerance to salt which may mean they're hardy enough to withstand it but yet I'm nervous cuz I can't find it.
