Round Pleco

Pleco with a round belly. I got him two days ago he was perfectly fine I have been feeding him algae wafers and he’s been munching on the tank. Just seen him now he has a round belly. Like proper round. I have a 29 gallon tank my waters are ph of 7.2 nitrites are 0.25 nitrates are 45. I’m so confused first time keeping a Pleco I also did a 30% water change today x

I'm not a pleco expert either, but for the swelling to happen that fast sounds like constipation. Thy giving him a skinless sweet pea instead of a wafer when you can. Many posts have said that peas have a laxative effect on fish.

 

Do you have a picture?

 

I’m not a expert on pleco either but it could be constipation like the person said or it could be eating too much or maybe pregnant lol.

 

For it to suddenly be much larger in a short time something is wrong. However without a picture it makes it hard to diagnose the fish, so if you could provide us with one we can give you better help.

 

Thank u all I will get a picture in a bit he’s currently on the floor moving round so can’t get a picture of his belly and is it just normal peas x

 

Just went to put peas In the tank for him and found he was on the side of my filter looks like he had exploded . RIP little sucker x

 

I'm so sorry about your fish. Are there other fish in the tank? I'd keep a close eye on them in case this was a bacterial or viral infection.

 

Yeah there are other fish I will keep a close eye on them aswell. I left the peas in there just incase any others are are the start of constipation x

 

I don't think this was (just) constipation. Unlikely that it would have killed the pleco (at least thisquickly)>

I don't think it was anything you did. Clearly he was sick when you bought him, there probably wasn't anything that you could do.

 

I feel so bad for the little guy. Like what if it was my fault x
