I do 1 gal. water changes every week for my tank and I was thinking how long would my filter take grow a strong colony from that water I use from my water change. I've had success with this before but it was way back

    Roughly 1/2 to 1 month I'm guessing?

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks,

    hey

The best thing to do is in a month test the water just to make sure they cycle is finished its easy and the safest way.
my local fish shop charges £1 for both test's

    hopefully this will help you
    kind regards

beneficial bacteria is more adheared to surfaces like the filter media, subtrate, decorations etc...its not free floating in the water enough to start a cycle, so im not sure if its at all possible to have a true cycle with just the water and nothing else aiding it
