Rotten egg smell

Can anyone please help?
I'm having trouble with my tank cycling (which is on a different thread).
Today I noticed the water smelling bad and thought it as due to the fish food rotting (fishless cycle using fish food).

I turned on the air pump as the water was cloudy and there was a film on the top and thought it might help. Now the whole of the upstairs smells like rotting eggs and my mum is NOT happy.

I have no idea what to do. My cycle has stalled and not changed at all for 2 weeks ish. I have some ammonia but can't figure out how much (pic attached), 0 nitrites and 0 nitrates.

I'm highly considering getting rid of all the water and doing a fish in cycle even thought I REALLY would rather not, as I cannot see what else to do!!

The smell is awful - is this purely because of the food?
It can't be surely as my cycle was doing really well for the first 3 weeks, I was using fish food (the same food) and didn't get this smell??

The water is murky and cloudy. Don't know what to do

Ammonia test - never been this colour before!

You can get rid of the smell by using some activated carbon. And as for your ammonia test the color chart looks like it goes from yellow to green but your test tube looks like it's blue. Are you sure that your ammonia test kit is not expired that could be a problem or your ammonia is just way off the charts. How much fish food did you put into your tank? And what kind of fish food did you use? You don't need that much fish food to start off a fish less cycle and I hope you didn't use frozen food.
The murky water could be a bacteria bloom and maybe you could do a 20-30% water change to help clear some of that ammonia.

Hopefully another member can chime in on what they think is happening and what you should do.

Good Luck!

I don't think your cycle was done also your parameters should be if done something like this........

ammonia- 0
nitrite-0
nitrate- 10-20

everything shouldn't be at zero, if you see all zero's across your cycle is not done.

CindiL

could you please chime in and give you input and advice.

Hi, I answered in your other thread

Thank you and sorry I didn't know the OP made another thread about this.
Jessica158

try and read your other thread you made about your nitrite and nitrate disappearing CindiL commented on how you can fix this problem.

Good Luck!
