Rosetail Growth or Finrot?

My betta has been growing his fins back after he got finrot a couple months ago, and recovery has been slow. Now I'm not sure if he has it again or if his caudal fin is turning into a full blown rosetail and it's just the petals that are sticking out. His fins are also much more wavy now too. I bought him in a cup labeled "Halfmoon Male Betta", but he looks like a rosetail to me.

Sorry for the unclear picture. He just will not flare for me.

Doesn't look like fin rot to me, but could just be my eyes.

I have a question about rosetails: aside from problems caused by the heaviness and excessive branching of their tails, do rosetail bettas have any other health issues, like weaker immune systems than most bettas?

He does look like a rosetail to me. Can he flare so that there are no folds like a hm? Or are they still ruffled when he does flare?
The excessive branching in rosetails can cause lethargy, tail biting, weight breakage in the rays leading to collapsing fins and trouble swimming, but this can happen in DT, HM and OHM too.
While I've never owned a rosetail myself, I've had breeders tell me they are considerably less robust immunity wise . Thus sadly, have considerably shorter lifespans. Though I'm sure this isn't true for every single individual, all fish are different and the way they are cared for will impact this greatly. So don't worry, just look after him well and enjoy him. He is a beautiful boy

Considering he’s in a tank all by himself AND I’m super fastidious about cleaning, I think he’ll do okay. I was considering getting him some pork chop rasbora tank mates, but I might end up deciding against it. I was going to quarantine them for a month or more, but idk...

His tail is still ruffled when he spreads it, but he only flares for my mom, because he hates her.

Thanks! It was love at first sight. He’s my second fish; I have a goldfish and... a gold fish.

Haha! Bless him, it's so funny he only flares at your mum!
Yes I'd definitely say rose or feather tail then he's a stunner!
Tank mates depend on your tank size and his personality. I keep bettas in communities, but I have some murderous bettas too so be prepared lol. The rasboras would work compatability wise. And if you do get them, quarantine is the best idea, all fish should be quarantined if possible imo.
How big is your tank?

My betta is pretty mellow; my mom is the one exception. I put fish-shaped toys in his tank, and he flounces about for a minute or two, then starts ignoring them.
I have 10 gallon, which I know is not ideal, but harlequins are small, school, fast, and like slow moving water. It’s just an idea I’m entertaining for now.
