Room Temp And Freshwater Aquarium Temp. (closed)

Back Story: I've had this 20L tank for quite a while now. Still in my noob stage. the water temp during the day for the tank usually dances beween 77.7 - 78.8 and that's with my a/c on at 75 ) which doesn't seem to affect the same level of temperature except in the kitchen where the wall ac is). I have no heater in this tank anymore because the room temp keeps it warm enough apparrantly

Fish I have: Neon Tetras,1 Black Skirt Tetra, 2 Cory catfish, 1 Pleco (so far)

Question: temp is usually 77-78. Room temp doesn't let it get any lower really. Are these safe levels?

After Thoughts: I've read about each of my fish and their preferred levels but my current temps are on the high edge of their recommended range and that worries me.

Welcome to Fishlore

You are correct; they all prefer ~74-75, presuming the cories are panda cories. You can lower your temperature by floating ice packs in the the tank or clipping a fan to the side of the tank.

There are some other issues regarding the stocking. Is your tank 20 litres or is it a 20 gallon long?

All good. We all make mistakes

What you're gonna have to do is find a (responsible) owner who will take in your black skirt & your leopard/three stripe. If not , you could start a new tank

You should then get 6 of each species except for the pleco. What type of pleco is it?

I haven't really been able to figure out I wish I was paying more attention when I bought them I'm assuming it's just a common pleco. at least that's all I've been able to gather cuz online I looked different plecos and nothing I find looks like it does so I'm guessing it's just a common. Wait a movm fish for what? Are you talking about stocking right now? Forgive me. I am noob

Yeah, I'm talking about stocking. If it's a common pleco you could be in trouble Chuck me a picture of him against the glass, I can ID it for you.

yeah ive been worried about the pleco shortly after researching it( I did not before buying it because I didnt intend to my friend I was with suggested I get one) I didnt know they could get so big though. I didnt have any photos of him on the glass, and currently hes on the rock thing you see in the pictures . Ill also be getting a 29 gallon in a few days. ive read that plecos should like be in 50gallons but I don't have the room for them so, heres hoping hes a late bloomer.

You should quickly move him. He'll get stunted if you leave him in there :/

I don't have anywhere else to put him. I told my friend I was worried about it. he told me he had a pleco in the same tank for two years and to not worry about it. that didnt stop me from worrying about it. thought about just giving him back to the place I bought him at. I don't know

Hmm. This is the dilemma. If he goes to the store he will probably be sold to a 10 gallon tank. I would put him in the 29 so that he packs on some size, then give him to the store

I did buy him from a family owned store. (I avoid buying anything living from commercial stores like petco or petsmart) so they seem to be very knowledgable and caring about their fish. it probably wouldnt be that bad

Sounds like a plan! I'd still check what the store owner considers as minimum for a common pleco. If they say 80+ gallons, the pleco's in good hands

Thanks for following!

yeah it was kind of a suggested impulsive buy. saying I was looking for an algae eater(which I was) but in retrospect, I should have gotten something like a Siamese Algae Eater

by the way were you able to confirm what kind of pleco I had?

If you want a good algae eater, try:

I plan to set up the 29 tank with tahitian moon sand (sand for my cory cats) with a lawn type grass seeded and some other stuff ill think of later. would probably be ideal for my current fish and invertibrates. I didn't have much luck with nerite snails . had 2 they died. but I think my nitrates were really high then.

question. how much was your bristlenose pleco? I read just now they only grow to like 4 inches. (saw it on your inhabitants tab)

Sadly it died but they grow to 5-6 inches, no bigger than 6.5". You could keep one in a 29.

From what I've searched there like 30 bucks I think the Amano shrimp will be cheaper for the same the purpose. I'm not much learned in the forum ways person but I think we destroyed it.
