I have a pile of 0.5" to 1.5" rock in my tank at the moment. I am in a fishless cycle and hope to be ready for fish in another couple weeks. I plan a colony of breeding Endlers. I am thinking that this rock pile would make a good place for fry to hide. But I do not recall every seeing an aquascape with a pile of rocks. Is this done? If not, is there a reason other than aesthetics?

Thinking I would have this pile of rocks on one side of the tank with tall plants behind it. Planning a heavily planted tank.
