RIP Phlox

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Phlox died a few minutes ago at 5:13 am. I was with him. He tried to go to the surface for air and couldn't make it. He sank to the bottom, had a seizure and passed away. I am crying my eyes out now. I may not be around posting for a few days. This is very difficult for me. I loved him so much! What's worse is I live in an apt and have no place to bury him. Flushing him is unthinkable. He deserves better.

Goodbye my sweet boy. I'll miss you more than you'll ever know! I hope you are in fish heaven swimming free and no longer in pain.

I'm sorry to hear about Phlox, he had an excellent life with you and you did all you could in the short time that he had this disease.

As for the burial, you could always keep him in the freezer until the warmer weather comes, then take him to a place that you've got a special memory at and bury him there.

You, Phlox and the rest of your Betta's will be in my prayers.

Phloxface, I am so sorry to hear about this.  Like you, I really hoped Phlox would make it through.

You did all you could do to help him recover; and, like Asinity said, I think he did have an excellent life.

Rest In Peace, Phlox, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have enjoyed hearing about him and seeing his pictures this year. It is so very hard to lose a pet , especailly a pet who has given you so much pleasure. He was beautiful, he had a wonderful life with you, and bless you for being such a wonderful owner. I found it heart wrenching when my Big Boy died. I agree. Find a nice container and freeze him until you can find a nice spot for him that you can see often. It really helps. I have 3 dogs and Big Boy buried in a spot under my favorite tree in the backyard. It is very comforting knowing all I have to do is look out the window and memories flood back, all good with the exception of a chewed up couch, high heels, and many, many stuffed animal noses! Take care. Sharon

I'm so sorry to hear about Phlox. You were a great mom to him and he is bragging to all the other little ones in fish heaven about how much his mommy loved him.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Phlox looks like he was an amazingly beautiful betta and his tank shows that you treated him like a king. It must be so hard to lose something you love so much but it is wonderful to see that he was so well cared for. Phlox was so lucky to have you caring for him, and I bet he knows that he is one of the most fortunate bettas that ever lived.

:'(I am so sorry about your loss. Phlox was such a wonderful betta and I know he has a special place in your heart. You took such good care of him as well as your other bettas. Having just lost Bessie, I can sympathize with how you feel. :'(

I'm so sorry to hear about Phlox! It's really hard to lose anything you care about.
Suggestion: buy a plant and make it his burial place.

Thanks to all for your support. The death of a pet always hits me very hard. I am still crying and may take a day off work to grieve. I lost a much loved cat six months ago to cancer. I got Phlox 2 weeks before she died. He entertained her while she was so sick and took her mind off her pain. She was far too sick to be a threat to him and loved to reach out her paw as she lay on the couch and gently touch his little tank (he was in a 2 gallon tank while I was in the process of buying his ten gallon). He had no fear of her and danced with joy for her. He was such a sweet boy.

Thank you Carol for the idea of burying him in a plant pot. I couldn't bare the thought of flushing him or throwing him in the trash. He was still floating in a cup where I put him after he passed away. This morning I bought a large flower pot and soil and buried him. I will find a beautiful plant to grow in there later. Being able to bury him respectfully helps a lot. You simply don't throw a loved one in the trash.
Here is a picture of his resting place.

8) I love the plant idea! If I ever have another fish die, (which better not happen), I will plant my fish in it. I was so sad having to bury Bessie in the cold outdoors.

We are all so upset to hear the news about Phlox and I know you are so upset. It makes me so sad that he did not make it.

You are such a good Betta Mommy and your other little ones will miss him as well. You did all you could do for him so please do not beat yourself up for his death.

I love the way you respected him and treated his memorial. It is a lovely tribute.
