Rip Little Rasbora. Update: Staying Cool In The Summer Heat

He was my only male in the bunch too. No more fry that's for sure. Absolutely nothing wrong with him after looking at him. Could it have been the heat? It was so hot in my house even with the AC on and fans blowin My tank got to 81F. I usually have it set at 74. Could it be the heat? Counted all my shrimp and all my danios and otos. Everyone else is accounted for

I’m going to the local fish store and buying a fan i’ve seen that can be mounted on the wall... I think. I don’t want to worry about this heat again

I have had a hard time finding fans that can be mounted on a tank with a rim. Any suggestions?

Someone else lost a Rasbora to the heat back at the start of July. It's definitely possible. Freeze a water bottle and float it in the aquarium, or put it in the HOB if it's large enough. There was a thread a few weeks back about dealing with the heat, with a lot of suggestions: How To Deal With Summer Heat And Tank

Thank you so much for linking this thread!

I do the ice method but it wasn’t working last night. I should have done a water change. Theres a salt water fish store about 30 mins from my house that will order pretty much anything in you need. They are a great store. There’s almost nothing they don’t carry so i’m hoping they will be able to help find me a fan if they don’t have any in stock

I lost 5 cories and a two frogs during a record breaking heatwave a few weeks ago. Since then, I have added foam insulation between the tank and the wall and do 50% water changes weekly. So far, no further loses.

I lost a rasbora, but not due to heat. I found it outside of the tank when I got up in the morning. Poor little guy was dried out and stiff. The other three are still looking for him I think . Sorry to hear about the loss of your fish.

Well went to j&l aquatics near my house and picked up a couple fans for my tank. Goodbye overheated tanks!
They mount on the wall too which I might do later but I need to buy some supplies to mount it so its on there really well. I have no stud to put it in

That's great news! I live in Vancouver BC Canada so this hot weather is really unusual for us. I am sorry for your losses. At least now you will know what to do in the future

Awe RIP little guy. Sorry for your loss Yea rasboras are jumpers. I have a glass lid I usually keep on my tank but I took it off with this heat. Look into a versa top. They aren’t very expensive. A lot of LFS will order them in for you or you could look on Amazon. They come in all different sizes or you could even get a mesh lid if it gets hot. I’ve lost a Rasbora that way also. It was right when I got them. I was so devastated. They were my first fish.
