Rimless tank- Worth it?

So I’ve been looking into rimless tanks. So far, they’ve all been $100+, but today, a 10 gallon rimless for $60 caught me eye.

It’s the Penn Plax Corner Water World tank. Comes with an LED, filter, and lid- which according to the reviews are all terrible- but the tank is beautiful. It’s a true rimless/frameless unlike the Aqueon rimless, it doesn’t have a bottom frame. On amazon this tank in 10g is $100+, so I know $60 is a steal for this tank.
Here’s the amazon link for the tank: https://www.amazon.com/Penn-Plax-Aq...um+penn+plax+10+gallon&qid=1612321913&sr=8-16

Is $60 really a good price for a rimless? Also if you’ve owned a rimless before, are they worth it? From the pictures they always look great, but do they really offer that much more clarity and aesthetics than a standard tank?

The alternative is $ per gallon sale on a standard 10. Another option would be the Aqueon rimless 10 for $40 with just the bottom frame- but if I’m going rimless, I’d rather spend the extra

I love the look of my rimless tank. The one issue I have is that if you get fish who like to jump, it becomes a challenge to put a lid on it without losing a bit of the effect

I use fly screen draped over the light then and it doesn't look too bad. Just use butterfly clips on the front and back corners to hold it tight.

This tank does come with a lid, but a lot of reviewers were complaining about it for its flimsy material. They have a smaller version of the tank at Petco, so if the lid really is an issue I'll see if the hinge can be fixed to a versa top lid or if I can purchase brackets for the versa top separately. I'm not too picky with lids- as long as they're flat and not so noticeable they become bothersome.

Would it be alright if you sent a picture?

Theres a couple of old pics i have on my phone you can see the fly screen at the top. The 2nd was taken after my wall collapsed so the tanks looks awful.

Alright I see what you did. That’s very cool! I think fly screen is something different here than it is overseas though. What you’re using is just a clear screen/sheet?

Fly screen is just the stuff you put in windows to stop the flies from flying in. Mozzie netting might work as well but im not sure it might be too fine.

Same, I'm surprised OP refers to rimmed tanks as "standard", because it's extremely rare to see tanks to be rimmed, especially the smaller ones, like 10 gallons in question.

Rimless all the way for me, it always has been and always will be. It’s honestly just a matter of preference, like asking someone BMW or Mercedes.

That being said, my 80G is completely braceless too.

Here in my part of the world the rimmed tanks are more common. I guess I'm different from most people because I don't mind the rims, and in fact prefer them since I don't like to see the top of the water. Any time I have enough evaporation that the top edge of the water shows below the rim I top them off.

Part of that is probably because my hard water leaves mineral deposits and I definitely don't want them showing.

I would like to go rimless some day, but that would have to be when I own a home. Basement would get 1 piece behemoths, 350g+

Here in the US, our tanks are rimmed, I think it's for production sake and cost. Now that the hobby is gaining popularity it's becoming a lot easier and much more common to see rimless though. Before I didn't even know rimless was a thing. Plus if it's completely frameless you don't need to worry about when that silicone gives out many years down the line.

I've mostly learned to ignore them, but yes they are quite unsightly as they accumulate over the years... That's definitely something to think about

A tank that size would be stunning... I don't think my budget would be very happy afterward though.

Edit:

Any light suggestions for the tank? I’m not looking for color changes, timers or anything like that, just a white light that is bright enough for plants and cost effective. The tank length is 17.7 inches(45.1cm). So far all the lights I’ve seen are for 18-24in, but I can add a foam piece to fit the bracket.

Well the tank arrived yesterday,
It's actually not completely what I thought it was. There is still silicone on the back and bottom panels, just the front view has rounded corners.

It is a quite handsome tank. While it hurt my budget more than a regular $ per gallon tank would, I do think it's worth it. The accessories weren't great, but not terrible either. The lid is actually very discrete. Its design is annoying, but as a lid, it serves the purpose.

Often times for the price, rimless just isn't worth it for me. But i have always been a more practical "function over form" person in about every aspect of life. If you are a person that loves the rimless look, can't fault you for spending the $$ for it, though. We all like what we like!

I agree. Normally I wouldn’t get myself a tank this pricey, but my mom really liked the rimless look and I wanted to make her happy. Ultimately I could still have gotten the rimmed tank- it was my choice- and there would have been no regrets on either side. You get what you payed for, rimmed or rimless.
Any pics?
Not setup yet, but here’s the tank. I tried my best to minimize reflection. I’m waiting until I collect enough wc water from my shrimp tank to fill up the tank, then I’ll transfer everything and shrimp. That’ll also give me time to find some nice driftwood for the tank and boil it several times.

Finally transferring them today....
I’ll take a before and after (with exact same plant and driftwood so it’s fair) of rimmed v rimless.

Hopefully everything goes smoothly!

EDIT:
I dropped in the water, finally filled up. The extra room gave me space to make the scape more elaborate, so the comparison is not completely fair, but hopefully it will give a good idea of rim v rimless. Unfortunately the light for this tank also got delayed so it’s a bit dim, but the look is there (angled to reduce reflection)

Got the new light!! Plants for rescape will come in a few days. I also figured out I could drape a blanket over my arm to block the reflection. This light has some blue to it- worked wonders for the red root floaters, never saw them this red under the other light! Can’t wait till they expand. I also realized one thing I really like about rimless is you get to see all the roots on floating plants
