Rescued Some Friends

HI fellow fish friends!!!

I have a predicament. I was browsing offer up, looking for a nice fish tank at a more reasonable price. Since I’m new to the hobby, I don’t know if this is frowned upon or not. Anyhow.

I came across this really good deal. In the same city I was in, I was able to talk the price down to something doable for me. Sold! I was on my way to buy the tank.

I walk in the door.... look at the tank.... double take... and realize there are 4 fish already in there! Wasn’t expecting that. The guy was moving, so he asked me if I wanted them. (I feared what he might do if I said no) the tank was NASTY. He was in the process of moving, so it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. Green chunks floating around. All that good stuff.

Anyways. I now have a 3-4 year old female angel fish. A loach. And 2 others that I forget the name of. Maybe someone can help me identify them.

Long story short, they are in pretty bad shape. Angel fish has fin rot or something I think. The pair has NO color. Loach is lonely. But besides that looks fine.

Here’s some pics. I have them isolated in a 10 gallon right now. I used some of my established fish tank water to fill this. I didn’t want to put them in with my babes in fear they would spread disease.

Can someone give me some advice? I’m relatively new to the fish game. I have 2 established tanks, but haven’t dealt with angels before. Only mollies and guppies and what not.

Angels should have companions, trios is what is recommended. I would try to do some medicating if it does have fin rot

Angels do not need companions, and 3 is a bad number with them. 2 will often gang up and bully the 3rd.

I would do daily water changes for now, as those fish are obviously to big for a 10 gallon. What size tank did you butane what size tanks do you have currently? What species and numbers of them are in your current tank. Are you wanting to keep these fish or genome them?

The loach is a kuhlI loach, and the two other fish are rainbowfish. Not sure what species. The kuhlI and the rainbowfish are schooling species and need schools of at least 6 of their own species.

The previous owner suggested I get her a companion. Apparently her friend died a while back.

I don’t plan to keep them in the 10 for long. It’s just all I had to put them in until I get their old home set up. It’s a 55gal tank.

I currently have another 10, a 20L, and a 5.5. Just got the 55. Need to set up and get parameters in check. There was quite a bit of algae when I got it.

In my 10 I have a female koi betta.

In my 20L I have 1 platy, 2 lyretail mollies, 3 guppies, and 1 female koi betta. They all love each other my platy schools with them all.

I need to get some more loaches I know that for sure.

I would definitely not recommend getting another angel. They don't need friends.

I've been keeping Angels for over 40 years and I can emphatically state they give fewest problems if you keep them singly.

They are wonderful fish to keep. They tend to boss the tank though so be ready for that and they are of course fragile with their delicate finnage. However, they are very interesting to watch and react to the owners presence.

They are probably the most wonderful tropical fish species to keep, but do need a reasonable amount of space.

It looks like you have a couple of Rainbow Fish there too, perhaps Boeseman's Rainbow.
