Rescued Fry From Toilet-Now What?

I was cleaning my fry tank today, and I mean I usually keep a very good eye on the siphon but I must have accidentally sucked up one of my fry. Then, I let the buckets sit so that the water is still and I look very carefully for any movement on the bottom to indicate fry. I didn't see any fish in there, so I went to dump the bucket. Well then, I saw something orange and fry-shaped moving in the toilet! Somehow this little guy managed to go completely unnoticed until he was already poured into the toilet (I swear, they have no self-preservation). Then of course I freaked out because my spawn is really small and I don't want to lose one, so I grabbed my smallest net and started trying to fish him out. But being a stubborn little fish, he was determined to stay in the toilet and evaded my net. Then he started trying to swim deeper back into the toilet! I ran and got this plastic cup that I use for fish stuff, and finally managed to scoop him out with that.

So now my question is...what do I do with him and the supplies I used to get him out? What would be the best way to clean the net and cup so that they're safe for fish again, or should I just throw them out? And what on earth do I do with this fish? Quarantine him? I don't want to infect the whole fry tank with toilet germs...

I would have just put him back in the bucket and then netted him back into the tank. I also would just rinse every thing out really well. Your tap water would probably be enough to take care of it. Fish also poop in their water. I personally wouldn't worry about it. But I am going to follow this thread to see what others think. I am sorry but the post did give me a chuckle , when you were trying to fish him out.Alison

Right now I just have him in the plastic cup, and I added some fresh water. These little guys drive me crazy! It's gotten to the point where they're used to the siphon and don't swim away from it anymore- sometimes they even swim TOWARDS it. I'm hoping it's not a big deal that he was in the toilet, but I just wanted to check first before I put him back in the tank with all the other fry...

There are no 'germs' in a toilet that can infect fish. Just mix it back into the tank.

Lol. I would just dechlorinate any water the fish was in that was in the toilet, and then put him back in the tank. At least you didn't flush before you noticed! Lucky little guy.

I use a cut off piece of one of those lingerie bags you wash delicate clothes in. I rubber band it over the siphon end and none if my fry get sucked up.
