Hello! I wanted thoughts and suggestions on replacing charcoal with purigen and if you can share your experience using purigen. I’ve read good and bad things about it. Just wanted your two cents! Thanks in advance!

Per testing, Purigen did remove tannins from the water but did nothing for water clarity and removed no nitrogenous compounds from the water.

Unless you are removing tannins I wouldn't bother. You don't need the charcoal either unless you are trying to remove Meds or smell.

Purigen worked wonders in my tank.
I have it in all 3 of my tanks.

Pretty much this. I used to use purigen and I thought it worked pretty good. But I haven't in a couple years and I see no difference. I think it's like a placebo effect. It looks like it's doing something because we're expecting it to do something.

Me too. Even if nothing else, it's definitely an effective water polisher.

Yes it is, and the nitrate level retention part is nice as well.

It does polish the water, and I find the difference can be significant when you have 4 goldfish in a 55g tank. I'm not sure how much effect it will have in a already clear tank.

Thank you all for your comments! I had already purchased two filter bags. So I put one in today. I suppose it can’t hurt to try.
