Catsma, have you tried the shrimp souffle variety for your RCS?

Just thought I would add that I just ordered myself a community package and can't wait to see how the fish take to it.

Not yet. I only have the Community Plus and the Meat Pie formulas. And my RCS swarm after both!

Hmmm, is there any difference between the shrimp version and the community plus?

yes please! I was looking at ordering some in the preemptive side of setting up a larger shrimp tank soon but decided to pass for the moment.

I will take very detailed notes on how my RCS like it. ;D

Yes... the Shrimp Souffle is a diet that is heavier in animal protein than plant protein. The first three ingredients are whole squid, whole krill and whole sardine.

Community Plus is balanced between animal and plant protein. The first three ingredients are whole krill, alfalfa leaf, whole squid

I've heard lots about repashy, and I got a suggestion on Random Discussion for me to stock more otos..... and I am seriously considering that but with a few questions. Would soilent green or Supergreen by repashy be better? Plus I have some bolivian rams.... not sure but i'm sure they will. If the rams get to the repashy and eat some, will it be harmful? Has anybody had success with otos and repashy?

Bottom scratcher formula would be perfect for the combination of species you have. And no worries if the rams graze on it, they'll benefit from it as well, just make sure to still present a diverse diet for everyone.

No, i'm just feeding for the otos. I forgot to mention but I think I may not have enought biofilm to sustain a group of otos. So I think PascalKrypt suggested a plant repashy if I am not mistaken?

Either is a good option. I'd choose soilent green personally as other fish can benefit off it as well. If you are worried about biofilm, bacter ae can be used to increase its development. The rams will be fine.

Should I use bacter ae with a repashy or just one of them?

Feohw

I'd use both. I like my fish to have a few options just in case the biofilm growth is going slow. Never tried repashy myself, though I've heard its good.

Would rams do fine with eating a little super green repashy? The soilent green has more crude protien and not sure if that would be good for otos.

Soilent green is often recommended for otos, but yes, super green is made purposefully with fish like otos in mind. So its a great option. Go for that one if you'd prefer. The rams should be fine eating some too. They eat insects and plant matter in the wild among other things. Mine eat algae wafers and even veggies when I add them to the tank.

Would otos be fine on repashy itself? Trying to cut corners for money as christmas is coming.

Following with curiousity as to which one you go with for your ottos That Repashy stuff seems very expensive. But have also heard great things about it. Another option is plant more plants and drop in some Indian Almond Leaves they will get a buildup of biofilm for the ottos to graze on.

Should do, you don't need bacter AE. I just like to have it as a precaution for my gobies. As long as they have a bit of algae and biofilm in the tank to munch on, repashy should do them good. You can also grow extra algae on rocks in a jar by the window.

I already have oak leaves in but I will consider getting cappata leaves or IAL, thank you! Repashy isn't that bad just 18.99 for a 6 oz and 24.99 I think for 12 oz. So really I should get the 12 oz to save money but usually, the first time I try something, I get a small portion and see how it goes.

I could probably ask for bacter ae for christmas! So maybe I will have both. Tommorow is buy 2 get 1 free fish day, if I got the fish tommorow and ordered the repashy tommorow, should the otos survive for 2-3 days depending on shipping without food? I could probably get cucumbers for them to munch on. I will probably get 6-9 otos, which seems better? a school of 11 or a school of 8?

Ottos are voracious eaters and will find things that noone even knew existed to eat from. Veggies are a toos up I would try ZucchinI before Cucumbers just for the bit more nutrition from the Zukes. They will sometimes graze an algae wafer. As long as your tank is well established they will do fine in there.

I feed cucumbers and they seem to like it. fed it maybe 3 times before? Thanks

Do you think buying 6 or 9 otos today would be better?

kallililly1973

Personally I would do the 6 and see how they do with the feeding then if everyone does well you can always add a couple more.

Ok! Thank you. If the otos are doing well with repashy and cucumber/zuchinnI am I clear to get the last 3 the next 1 or 2 weeks later?

I wouldn't see why not. The toughest thing I found with ottos are supplementing them with the "prepared foods" but then again I haven't tried the Repashy or the other brands stated earlier and have only seen mine graze on algae wafers or zucchinI a handful of times.

Cool looking forward to seeing pics and hearing how the ottos like the Repashy. Where did you order your Repashy through if you don't mind me asking. Do you have a link? Thanks!

Amazon. I can provide a link.

I assume the amano can live off the repashy too?

Yes amanos will eat repashy. I feed them their own foods too. They will eat pretty much anything, as well as algae and biofilm. They love veggies too, good source of calcium for them.

Update, otos, only one casualty and that was fixed by a replacement oto. it acclimated well with faded colors lasting max 5 minutes after introduction. I can see a clear difference in diatom control all diatoms on my crypts are gone so speak about the algae so repashy will be needed for sure. Amano doing fine, just hiding alot.

I have a question for anyone that uses repashy with otos, do you have a certain way to make the otos eat it? They don't seem to have a interest in it so I thought maybe I would put some in everyday and kind of "train" them to eat it.

I’ve not used it regularly but a friend gave me a little to try a while back.
I spread a little on some zucchinI & some on flat stones & they loved it, you’ve just reminded me to go get some more

I'll definitly try repashy on zuchinni! I assume I could do the same with cucumber?

Do you feed Repashy as a daily food or as a treat like some frozen foods?

FYI: I found Repashy way cheaper from a independent fish store that sells online vs Amazon.
