Repashy Food for Fish

oh I realize this but she isn't as much of a fan of the fish as I am, I have been lovingly allowed to spread the tanks out in the house.

hmmm sounds like I may have found a new food source, how bad is that smell thou... gotta convince the fiancee that the smell can be worth it.

It isn't really all that bad, but as Dino stated, the more it smells the more they like it.

The batch I made today didn't make the room smell as bad as the Community formula did. But not sure if that was because I mixed up half the batch.

If the smell is bothersome to your bride, then you could boil the water and add the powder in the garage or somewhere else designated for fishy activities.

Once gelled, you don't notice any smell.

well as long as it isn't permiating I can work around it. I was just hoping it wasn't one of those things that filled the house for the rest of the day.

I used bottle water to avoid chlorine. But, as the water is boiled, I doubt that chlorine would be an issue.

I know boiling would get rid of the chlorine as it gasses out when heated but what about chloramines?

Hmm, good point! Makes me wonder if it was ok to always boil my pleco's veggies in tap water before I fed it to him...

chloramines are just chlorine mixed with ammonia and when it breaks down it leaves the ammonia behind, I really don't think it would be an issue as this is in the water and the concentrations are not going to be that high in the end result

They can be removed by boiling, it just takes longer, as choloramine has a stronger bond.

Sweet, I got to use my minor in chemistry.

Here's one of the videos I took of my 125G Community. Dropped a few flakes in to attract the fish as they are camera shy. Clown Loaches fight over the food once they find it. And the Common Pleco came out as soon as I walked away from the tank. They still are unsure of the gel, but once they find it....it is quickly eaten.

So, has anyone tried the shrimp souffle on their shrimp? I'm thinking of starting an RCS tank so I want to know if it's good for them.

Will they start carrying it at LFSs?

Will they start carrying it at LFSs?

That's a good question! If its ever released to sell like that, it'll certainly be up to individual store owners. I hope so, though! It'd be really cool

It's much easier to buy at LFSs than online. Prices differ though...

Ask your LFS to carry it.

I have a question. How long does it store when you gel it? You mix up more than just for one day's feeding, correct?

Each batch should last 2 weeks in the fridge.

Great thread! I am glad to see that people are trying the food and giving it a good test.

I have been working with the Repashy Superfoods for several months now. At first I was like, 'it'll be great for feeding fry' (which it is), but I quickly discovered that it is worth being the staple diet in my fish room.

I greatly appreciate the reference to my website. Here is a link to the Repashy-specific information: repashy

If Fishlore will let me, I would like to offer forum members an discount to try the food. I have set up a 10% discount code to use when you check out: FISHLORE10

I will keep that code active until the end of March. I will also book mark this page and come back to answer questions.

Thanks again!

Thanks Ted! Welcome to the forum

Can repashy be fed to fry that have just used up their yolk sacs, or do you need to wait for the fry to grow a bit?

Depends upon the species. Fry that require the 'wiggle factor' to trigger a strike on food will still need to be started on live food. Detritus grazers will take to it right away. I have seen newly free swimming ram fry pick at the food, but they do not fill up on it until after a few days.

Repashy food can also be used as a surface-fed fry food. I drop a pinch of dry powder on the surface for rainbow, danio, barb and tetra fry. It works just like API or Sera Micron, but has more complete nutrition. The Repashy only has 5% binding agent. The other 'powder' fry foods are really a finely ground adult dry fish food, and contain the 20-30% indigestible binders that flake and pellet foods have in order for them to hold together in water.

Continuing to offer both the Community Plus and the Meat Pie gels to all my tanks. And, am noticing a few changes:

Clown Loaches becoming overly aggressive. I take it that LOVE this stuff to become so aggressive. They are not only shadowing each other, but the larger clowns, around 8 inches, have taken to shadowing the largest Silver Dollar??? Have no idea why, but can tell you that the Silver Dollar is not pleased being run ragged from one end of the tank to the other.

Plecos spend so much time guarding the gel that they forget to eat it But once they start eating, they gorge themselves until it's gone.

The betta is hilarious! He attacks his tiny piece the second I drop it into his tank, and bites and attacks it on its way down. Very funny to see. He doesn't appear to mind either gel formula.

My barbs and kribs go after the Meaty gel. They really like it.

All in all, my fish are starting to recognize the gel as food and come faster and faster; with the exception of my picky angels!! They are still watching the water surface for food. I am going to try to sprinkle a small amount of powder into the tank like Ted suggested. See if that brings more interest.

I received the food today and just mixed some up! It's currently setting.

I am a little concerned about how long it will last. It seemed like it took a lot of power out of the bag to make it.

I will post a video later of the first feedings.

Thanks again Ted!

While the packaging stated the gel would last a couple of weeks, I used it up in 13 days. So 1/4 cup of powder per batch is about right with all my fish, and the fact that I offer a variety of foods to my fish.

Dillon, please share your experience with this new food.

The smaller bags are, in my opinion, for trying the food out to see if you like it. The cost per ounce decreases dramatically the larger the bag. In the 64 oz size the price gets down to about $1/ounce (including shipping if you are using the discount code). The dry food will last 18-24 month in its foil bag at standard room temps, and longer if kept cold. Using Catsma's data, one ounce of dry food is about 1/4 cup, which lasted her nearly two weeks. Therefore 64 ounces would last about two years!

Most people who are reordering are getting the 16 out size. With the discount it is working out to be about $2/ounce, which means about $1/week to feed. There is also a 32oz size. I offer free shipping at $100, and some people have figures out that a 64oz bag of what they feed the most and a 32 oz bag of what they feed less of hits that level and the shipping is covered.

That is great information! I will have to add a sticker to the pouch and write the estimated expiration date. I don't recall seeing any indication on the packaging, but could be wrong.

I kinda forgot about sharing how the food went!

The first night, none of the fish really touched it right away. Except my endler tank. They were all over it! Next morning when I woke up though, all food was gone. I've seen the angels and other fish picking at it more recently when i'm at the tank, but they usually wait till I walk away.

My shrimp LOVE this stuff. I ordered some Fire red shrimp online a few months ago with plans of breeding them. I only got 4 males and 2 females, and about a month ago, one female died. I haden't seen any eggs on the remaining female until feeding this food. Just within the past week, she has hatched a set of eggs and already has a big bunch of them again. She's also getting more red color. I've noticed better color in ALL my fish now that I think of it.

I feed Repashy in the morning, and Kensfish flakefood at night for variety.

Hope this convinces people to buy some of this great fish food!

That's great Dillon!

My RCS took to Repashy immediately too. I have tried both the Community Plus and the Meat Pie. They swarmed after both..lol Have noticed many RCS juvies. I can't see them when they are first released. Bad eyes! Anyway, they are now about 1/8 inch long. Have no idea how many are in the shrimp tank, but noticed one of my females appears to be carrying eggs again. Have no idea how often they produce eggs to compare to.

One angel pair are constantly fighting and breeding. Never seen anything like it before! Too bad this pair doesn't produce good fry.

I too feed my fish Repashy for one feeding; and a different food the next.
