Disaster has struck today.
I went downstairs earlier this morning around 5 o'clock in the morning. (Its 9 here right now people).
Sat down at the breakfast table, warmed up food up, I noticed a puddle of water on the table...odd. I wipe it up with a rag and then I go leave to clean off the rag and my dishes. I come back and the puddle is back...really odd.
I look up and there's water leaking through the ceiling!!!
I bolt upstairs into my kid's/Nephew's room where my 30 gallon and 55 gallon are housed and there's nothing leaking. I checked real good. Then I checked the canister filter and realized it had a slow drip...AND THEN I realized had spilled only some water on the floor from twiddling and trying to make the canister work. I didn't think I spilled that much water but I did.
I realize that I need to make this set-up safer AND then there's the ceiling problem.
I got some rubber maid tubs, drained the 55 gallon of water, out the window, and then the 30 gallon halfway. One Rubbermaid tub I put the 30 gallon filter on and caught the fish, put them in that, filled it entirely with their aquarium water and some fresh water. I put plants, a scoop of gravel, and the décor. Its a 15 gal Rubbermaid. I dosed it with some Prime and Stress Coat. Wrapped blankets around it and made it nice and dark.
I'm a little exhausted right now but I'll have to move both empty tanks + stands and strip the carpet + padding and put anti-mold on the bare floor and start scrubbing. Then comes the fan and air drying. Toss the wet carpeting and paddings and replace it with new carpet. After all this I will have to go rent a ladder and paint the ceiling with anti-mold wash and white paint.
I didn't think it out thoroughly when I was messing with the canister filter and when it was dripping. I feel terrible that I didn't plan this out thoroughly especially with such large tanks. I usually jump the gun with a lot of things.
After everything is replaced and the danger of mold and rotting floorboards is gone I am going to place the 55 gallon + stand where the 30 gallon is (on the back wall of the room) so it will be the first thing you see when you step in the room and with the 30 gallon I plan to move it to the side or right smack dab next to the 55g. On the floor I will protect it with some garage door foam pads.
******Moral of the story********
So today here's a reminder that if you have gotten MTS or you have multiple tanks or thinking of getting another tank plan out where you are going to put the tanks and make sure that:
A. You know where you are going to place the tank permanently
B. That you know how to work the filters BEFORE you put it on the tank
C. When filling up the tank or dealing with possible water spillage that the floor is covered especially with carpet.
D. Don't rush when setting up a new tank.
