Rehoming A Snail Post Disease

Over the past month I've been trying to save the betta fish that had brought me onto this forum in the first place, but unfortunately she has passed away. She was living with a nerite snail who miraculously made it through the medicinal treatments I should have removed him for and is currently in a critter keeper I'm doing daily water changes on to keep him out of the more heavily medicated water my betta had recently been in.

My question is would it be safe to bring the snail to the tank at my work or could it possibly be contaminated with whatever had infected my betta? I've still no idea what was wrong with the fish. It appeared to be a parasite or fungus. Possibly both.

I think he should recover in the critter-keeper for a while- do some more water changes in the betta tank and soon you should be able to add the snail.

Alright. The critter keeper isn't heated, but luckily it's summer time and my room is kept toasty. Will the tank's cycle be off by the time it's safe to add the snail back? I might end up bringing it to the tank at work anyway.

Also I'm worried he's not much to eat. I tried giving him some cucumber, but he didn't have any and recently I added in one of the plants from the tank in case it contained some algae. Is there something else I could try?

The snail cannot catch what the betta had. The activated carbon for the filters removes medication. If you put a fresh bag of activated carbon in the filter it should remove any left over medication in the water within a few hours. I would remove the bag a few days later because of the carbon gets too “full” of toxins it starts leaking them back into the water. So a few days of picking up leftover medication will probably “fill” the carbon up.

Snails are more active and eat more the warmer that the tank is so it’s probably just got a slow metabolism right now. I find they only eat a few times a week anyway even if you offer food every day.

Thank you! I don't have carbon but I do recall getting some special sponge or floss that removes medication. I'll add some of that in after work today. Glad to hear he's not going to starve. I recall him mowing through algae like no tomorrow.
