Regular silicone ok?

I have a small tube of aquariam silicone. It's about 2 ounces for $8. I have a large tube for the bathroom (that would be more practical for the stone building that I would like to do). It is non toxic when dry. Has anyone had the nerve to try this stuff yet? If so what were the long term effects. I like my pleco! I want to build for him not kill him...

 

The big tubes of silicone are fine as long as they are 100% silicone and don't have any additives such as something to kill mold and mildew.

I saw in the diy that make some kind of feed rings. There is an address posted, I clicked on it and my server said page not found. I sure would like to get there.

I'd be careful with bathroom caulking.

I bought some at Menard's that is not aquarium safe. In fact, it states on the package, in spite of being pure silicone, that you shouldn't use it on an aquarium.

In short, if it doesn't say it's for an aquarium...I'm using it.

That stated, there are large tubes that you can get from your home stores, you just have to look for them. And they'll clearly state that it is aquarium safe.

 

Thank-you darkwolf, the tube I have ended up being white so that put the project on hold. I will look for some larger tubes that say aquariam safe.

 

Yeah in the tubes I'm talking about the silicone is clear, te package says 100% silicone and doesn't have anything added. It's what I use to put rocks together with.

Yeah, I've found any with a color to be "bad", as in...unuseable for our purposes.

I've also found a couple of the clear ones too, just read the tube...it'll tell ya.
