So a few days ago I found a praying mantis on campus, and took him home to my empty mantis habitat thing (the one time I didn't have my jar with me, so I had to hold him in my hands on the ride home, and he fought me the whole way home lol). He's already molted once, and eats like a champ lol: f8aaed3211b62e05303ae121d1c0e842.jpge336813ede4204fb354f265c872274d2.jpg8c84c3d3315b0615fd0d23673d5aac13.jpg He's holding a fly in the third picture, for scale

Lol I had been sorta looking for a mantis anyways, I've had one before and loved having one, and had heard that there are always plenty of mantis egg cases in that area, and luckily I had my mom and brother with me because my brother is the one who saw him first and if my mom hadn't been there I wouldn't have been able to drive him home on my own since I didn't have anything to put him in for the trip. (I had to keep him enclosed in my hands the whole way home) We found him right next to a footpath which had plenty of traffic, and loads of wasps and spiders which could certainly have made short work of him. He's living pretty high off the hog now, getting several meals almost every day, and when it's not raining I set his enclosure outside in the sun. Just today, he got to eat a whole junebug while lounging in the sun.

*Mildly graphic description of grasshopper gore ahead*

This mantis is a big fat glutton, after eating an entire junebug this afternoon, just a little bit ago I found a big juicy grasshopper in the yard and put it in with him, not really expecting him to go for it, but lo and behold, he grabs it, and they start swinging all over the place (as the grasshopper sprayed it's "defensive fluids" all over the place, staining the heck out of the enclosure's mesh) and once they stop thrashing, he immediately chews through the grasshopper's knee before burying his face in its thorax, and then eating its face from the inside. He really eats like a champ lol.

Lol I think I may be depleting the population of grasshoppers in my yard to feed Reggie, they're getting increasingly difficult to find

Urgh, Reggie has been preparing to molt since Tuesday and I'm getting antsy waiting for him to finally do it. Since I noticed he didn't want to eat anymore I stopped moving his cage between inside and outside so as not to disturb him, but I'm wondering if I were to set the cage outside in the sun again if it would help him molt, but again I'm really nervous about disturbing him. I'm also anxious because I'm certain his wings will come in with this molt, and the mantis I had a few years ago had his wings come in all mangled for reasons I'm not totally sure of, so I'm kinda worried about it happening again lol.
