I was wondering how reliable Sun Sun canister filters are since I'll be getting a new canister filter soon and wanted to know which was better Marineland canister filters or Sun Sun canister filters?

For example would the Sun Sun hw302 264gph canister filter be good on a 29 gallon fish tank or would it be too much flow?

I can't say if it would be good or not but that is the same setup I am planing on a hw302 and a 29. It looked right to me.

I have a Sunsun 303b, it has been flawless so far; but I've only had it a month. It is definitely very quiet, I feed a floating flake food so I decided not to use the skimmer. I think the UV light has actually helped eliminate algae too.

Would the 303b work on a 29 gallon or would it be too much flow?

I think it would be perfect for a 29 gallon tank. I used the media trays just as it came and my nitrates stay pretty low. The next time I service the filter, I'm going to add matrix to the top tray...as much as it will hold. This filter is well worth the cost in my opinion.

I had a sunsun 302 in my 30 gallon, flow was fine for it, wasn't too much especially with discus in the tank (which love less flow). It's rated for a 75 gallon tank but the flow with the spray bar on, it's not much of a flow. I took off the spray bar for my 80 gallon and it's not enough flow still so I had to add a wave maker. My point is, if you attach the spray bar, it restricts the flow so if you feel that without it is too much, put it on and it'll be fine

I modified the return spray bar and put it in a vertical orientation to sweep the tank....it's a mild current. I can post a pic if you are interested?

I have been using the sunsun hw 402b in my 30 gallon cube since it was set up in June and have been satisfied with its performance except for priming and getting it restarted after tank and/or filter cleaning that last more than 30 minutes or so.

Obviously, 6 months is not exactly "long term" use but based on the collective feedback of others and my experience so far, I think it was a good choice

I used one purely as mechanical filtration on my reef tank for about 3 years, never had any real issues with it. UV bulb replacement was about every 12 months.

I just bought the 304b, 525 gph filter for my upcoming 90 gallon freshwater set up. It's sitting in it's box under the tank stand while I collect some other supplies together for the build.

I run 17 304B and 22 603B and can tell you I've never seen a better canister for the money! It's not built cheap, it just doesn't cost a lot. I would get a 303B ever body overrates the flow on there filter, with a spray bar, you can adjust where the flow goes. If you having trouble getting it, try this link.

Plz do because I just ordered this filter for my 29 gallon dwarf african cichlid tank bc the aqua clear 75 and aqua clear 50 hob filters isn't cutting it and I have diatoms like crazy as well which is due to the silicates in my tank.. I think it's my tap water... thinking of buying a R O filter to put on the sink I'm my fish room..
