So here is what i'm thinking about:

55g with limestone rock and driftwood. House only cichlids and a bristlenose pleco.

20g long with soil, lots of water wisteria, moss. Home to 10 tiger barbs.

The platies, mollies will be given away.

Everything is going fine in the 55g tank, but I think the cichlids aren't mating because of the other fish?

Sounds like it may work out.
For priming your cichlids to breed, you may want to make sure they are getting good quality, higher protien foods. Possibly some frozen foods, blood worms, occasional brine shrimp and other things help them get in the mood.

Make sure the water is clean so that they remain healthy. Are you sure you have plenty of females?

Most cichlids don't mind who else is in the tank. They will breed if they are ready and conditions are right, but giving them better conditions without the other fish to worry about may help.

As you already have yellow labs there's a good article on them here
