HI I need some help please.
I am a newbie, have a 5 gallon tank with external power filter. cycled it with fish in unknowingly. They survived. I have a red wag female and a marygold platies. they mated. I have one baby surviving 10 days old now. All was going well till the last 24 hours. The prwviously active heavy eater red wag is not eating at all, much much less active.
I had petsmart test my water this morning and all was ideal except pH. It was about 6.2. I was told to use pH up and did. Followed with liquid apI test kit and now pH around 7.2 to 7.4
I havr not changed any of my conditioners. Filter cartridge is only 10 days old and looks clean.
What else can I do. I am really trying to keep this fish. She is super cute.

It's possible the change in behavior could be caused by stress. Otherwise, it could be a sickness. Does the red wag have a change in appearance? Could you post a picture?

Sounds like swim bladder. I would suggest fasting her for 1-2 days and seeing if she improves. Also, to speed up the process you could feed her cooked peas. Hope this helps

So you have 3 platy in a 5 gallon tank?
Platies should be in a 10 gallon minimum.
Your tank is overstocked

What are your exact parameters?

Probably stress due to the small tank.

Are you sure the marigold is a male?

platys can hold sperm from the last time they were around a male for 6+ months. if you have two females, you are going to be in trouble soon with a ton of fry.

there is 2 fish and 1 baby fry. he'll be leaving soon.
I was told the tank is fine for 2 platies. They have been living in for some time so idk if the sudden stress is from the but I am not experienced so maybe.
And yes I am sure marigold is a male 100%

the clutches will continue to get larger most likely as she has more pregnancies. def find a place for them to go when they are big enough lol

my 10 gallon tank needs way more cleaning and water changes than my 40b,

also, with replacing your media, did you put the old media in with the new to get the bacteria on it? 10 days is not enough time to cycle the tank. a 5 gallon is def NOT big enough for anything other than a single betta male really, and that's cutting it close.
