Red tail shark not feeling good

  1. Chris123 Well Known Member Member

I noticed just recently that my RTS has been very active as he used to be.
He's very old he probably 7 years old.
he starting to lose his pigment from black to more grayish now

    Is this normal?

I would say, sadly, time is catching up to him. It sound like old age. But what are your water parameters, have you seen any symptoms of anything, etc.

Hello CheeseBurger. Sorry to hear that your Red Tail Shark (RTS) isn't feeling up to par. If your chemistry readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are where they should be then "old age" would surely come into play.
    Best wishes!

The lifespan of an RTS is listed as 5-8 years, so if your water parameters are on target and the other fish in the tank are not showing any issues, it's more than likely old age catching up to him.

Yeah all the amonia and nitrates are fine i guessing old age too:(

But on a good note i fed him some shrimps pellets and perked up a bit :)

Glad to hear he perked up :)
Even if it is old age the fact he has lived this long is a sign he's had a fantastic life!

Yeah hes gone through alot through the years from guppies to sword to cichlids
Its fun to say that he was the first fish when i got my tank.

I think it's amazing how fish are like a family. Members are born and members die. They come and go. They fight, they love, they protect. But in the end, we will always miss them.

I give my best for your RTS
