Red Shoulder Not Eating

I recently got him from my LFS and by recently I mean maybe a month. He just won't eat. I've tried feeding Omega One cichlid pellets that have the super color and that sink and I've tried the API cichlid pellets. He used to eat good when first being introduced to the tank and now nothing. Only thing he will eat is brine shrimp but I don't want to feed that but maybe twice a week. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do? I could try some flakes but I would rather not.

Note- I also have a KenyI cichlid that has been doing the same thing but I found that he will eat the API pellets.

Makes sure your water parameters are good. The Africans
Need a PH of 7.8 - 8.3. Hold off feeding for a couple of days. If he refuses to eat after that, you might consider medicating Metronidazole / Seachem's Metroplex.
One more point, are you sure the Red Shoulder is a male?
Females usually won't eat while holding fry.

My pH is low and I figured that was what was causing this. I'm trying to get it back up as we speak. I am 90% sure it is a male based on fin shape and I don't have any other male peacocks in my tank.

If you use limestone to construct the hardscape in the tank
it will up your PH & buffer the water against a PH crash.
African Cichlids cross breed. Sometimes Peacocks will mate with Haps & Mbuna will mate with either.
It will all work out. Hope your Red Shoulder gets better soon.

My red shoulder seems to be on the brink of death! I found it this morning swimming vertical with nose down. I scooped it up and put it in a hospital floating tank. I’ve been using crusted coral for about 2 days now in a filter bag in each of my filters and no change yet. My pH was 7.8 3 days ago and now it’s 7.4-7.6. Atm I’m moving the crusted coral from a smaller bag into a bigger media container.
