Red Root Floater doing an Alum dip

So I received some red root floaters in the mail today and I have them currently in a quarantine tank outside I was reading online about doing an Alum dip but then I was thinking to myself maybe there is something different about floating plants that you're supposed to do and after reading that these plants don't like being submerged can you still do the kind of dip or should I do something different? I don't know if that's a dumb question but I'm new to plants and I want to do the best I can

I've never personally tried an alum dip, but red root floaters can be submerged for a few seconds. The tops of their leaves are hydrophobic, so I don't know how well that will do with a dip, and I know the roots are sensitive, but if it's a quick dip it should work. Again, I haven't tried on and I don't know if they are sensitive to it, but they can be submerged for a brief period

Thanks I just don't wanna end up adding something harmful to my tank. Do u have any other recommendations on what I could try?

I've QT'd plants for a month and still ended up with weird hitchhikers, and I wish I did some kind of dip. Unfortunately, I don't know a good one for red root floaters, sorry

Does anyone kno if there's a difference for dipping to kill stowaways between planted and floating plants?

I don't have an answer for that in particular, but last time I gave some red rooters to my mother I rinsed them very well in plain water. I had a bit of a snail problem, and she did not end up with any snails in her tanks.

My red rooters get stuck underwater for extended periods of time and seem to do fine once they resurface. Red rooters are different from plants such as frogbit, which I have heard will lose leaves if they get wet. It's the reason I chose red rooters over Amazonian frogbit. I would have leaves dying left and right if I couldn't get them wet.

You can try hydrogen peroxide, bleach, or even copper dips to rid of snails or hitchhikers.

Peroxide is great for algae, but usually has no effect on hitchhikers.... and copper means no inverts (shrimp, nerites, etc) in the future... (even if just used as plant dip I wouldn’t add it to a tank with inverts after)

Just be careful, most floaters, RRF especially, can be prone to melting from treatments... as long as a tiny bit lives they are relatively easy to nurse back to health

I have a mystery snail so I was wondering that about the copper. Ive had them in quarantine for 2 days and I haven't seen anything and some of the tops are starting to not look too good I don't want them to die I think I'm gonna rinse well and just add a couple to tank tomorrow and hope for the best
