Red Mark On Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish's Jaw

Andrew waterson

HI all,

One of my male dwarf neon rainbowfish has a red mark on one side of it's lower jaw.

It's not very visible on the pics, but look a bit like he may have knocked it against the glass/rocks (I have lava rock, which does have rough edges).

I noticed this about 3 days ago. No change in behaviour and he's eating fine (he's the boss rainbowfish!)

I'm using paraguard as I have some in an it's quite mild.
Any idea if this might be something more serious that needs treatment?

It's a 160l community tank (bronze Cory's, rummy nose tetras, pearl gourami, loads of cherry shrimp and a few endlers), no obvious aggression.
Ammonia and nitrite both a steady 0

Thanks

A201

It looks like a hemorrhage just underneath the skin. Maybe the Rainbow torpedoed mouth first into a decor item or the glass. Hemorrhagic Septicemia has similar a symptom, but that ailment is somewhat rare. I think no worries. Its probably a superficial injury.

Thanks.
That is reassuring.

I'll keep monitoring and hopefully it will clear up soon
