If the red claw crayfish is anything to go by because after all they are both crustations
With my cray they change colour for two reasons
1st when they molt and the new shell emerges
2nd which may be more towards your crab is its breeding time and they like to show off with colour

I no this one has already molted recently I didn’t think they got darker for breeding I thought it was lighter

You are probably right if you've done research
I am just trying to give you some comparison on what happens
Do you know if both male and female change colour and if they do its possible one goes darker and one light
We've not got many crabbies on the forum

I don’t no if they are male or female I will phone my pet shop Monday and ask them if they no anything about crabs thanks for the help

There is one guy I was intouch with from the seashells keeping crab I see if I can find him, I've not heard from him in a while, when I find him ill tag him to your post
