Hi guys! I'm new to gouramis; I'm more of a betta girl (wink, wink :) ) myself. Now that I've gotten that cheesy joke out of the way...

I recently added a female gold gourami to the 55 gallon community tank. Long story short, the betta in there is not a fan. I would not like to remove him into a smaller tank, so I was pondering moving her into the empty 20 gallon. I'm thinking that would be a little tight for her comfort, but I would really hate to move the betta into the 2.5 gallon when he's lived his whole life in the 55.

A 20G is too small (by far) for a Gold.

I'd have to agree with DoubleDutch, gold gourami can get a good 6" so need more space.
I'd leave her in the 55 & move the Betta to the empty 20 if you don't want to put him in the 2.5
