Recommended food for small mouths

Hi there,

I have a few endlers and 7 pseudomogil luminatus, all of which have small mouths. I also have an apistogramma in the same (community) tank. Right now I alternate between frozen daphnia and golden pearls (200-300 micron size). When I feed golden pearls, I also give the apisto some frozen brine shrimp.

My golden pearls are starting to get old and am looking for maybe another type of food to put into the mix for their diet. I tried New Life Spectrum Optimum flakes, but the fish don't really get very interested in it. I had some Elive brand flake food that they used to love, but I ran out of it.

Any suggestions for other flake foods to try or other kinds of food (bug bites?) would be much appreciated!

Hikari micropellets are my favorite.

I have Bug bite micro granules and all of the fish go crazy for it.

Golden pearls are amazing. Not very commonly mentioned or sourced in my area.

Just to add to the above...gel foods are great - many ways to serve up this type of food - versatile. Sometimes I'll grate pellets/wafers on a microplane or rarely, smash them up with a mortar and pestle and store.

Omega One frozen daphnia are good for small mouths too.

But Bites maybe?

I use NLS small fish formula or grow formula for small fish (0.5mm pellets). If they are big enough to take frozen brine shrimp they should also be able to take frozen mosquito larvae.

I second the Hikari micropellets. Your fish will have no trouble eating them.

But Bites maybe?

I meant "Bug Bites", not "But Bites". I usually proof read before posting, but that one got by me.

Hikari micropellets are the most convenient IMO. I have small fish and even my tiny juvenile neon can eat them very easily.

Yeah I think that the Hikari Micropellets would work for my endlers, but what about the pseudomugil luminatus? They are the smallest of the dwarf rainbows. They can't eat frozen brine shrimp (it's too big for them).

Should be fine. Even my ember tetras have no trouble with them at all. I just grab a pinch dip it in front of an outflow and release, so that way all the fish will see it. And if you're really worried about the size, which really shouldn't be an issue, just use crushed up flake food. Feed same method as I explained above.

I think it'll be fine. The pellets are almost kind of like glitter if that makes sense? I spilled mine and it was a pain to clean; it took a long time lol.

A bit late but hikari micropellets would work for Pseudomugil Luminatus. I have them and they live the hikari pellets. If you have an issue then you can just crush them in your fingers before putting in the tank.
