Reason Of Death

ok this might be a little silly but I still was attached to the fish that passed away. I barely had the male Dalmatian Molly for 6 months. It was in a medium stocked 20 gallon and was bought from a petsmart, so it wasn’t a young fish but I didn’t think it too be old either. Mollies live for 2 to 4 years correct? This morning was the only sign a saw of his upcoming death. He couldn’t swim properly and he looked emaciated. I feed my fish in the mornings and don’t really have time to stick around to see if they are eating. I couldn’t see his emaciation until today. He eventually just torpedoed into the gravel and just laid there. Was he just too old? Was it a parasite that is now endangering my other fish? There were no growths like ich on him at all.

Honestly, there's no way to know. We can give our best guess. That's about it. I had fish die with no warning. It happens.

How are the nitrates and other water parameters?

Anytime I have a fatality, I do a large water change followed by another one a few days later.

We seem to think we have to do something so a big water change won’t hurt, and may help.

I do the same thing.
