So I'm completly dressed up and ready for date night. I know big deal right, but I have 5 kids (ages 2 to 14) so I was very excited to go out with hubby!
Grandparents about to arrive. I go to feed the fry there last meal of the day. Hmm my toothpick is wet? Weird .... I look around the tank. The thick placemat underneath the tank is wet too. !!!!

So I unplug everything and start scooping water out of the tank. I wasn't thinking and just dumping down the drain. I was trying to save fish & my solid oak hutch the tank was sitting on. Not too mention the wood floor beneath it all. I thought the water was evaporating a lot the last few days but never put it all together.

Final conclusion once I caught all the fry, dumped the rocks, etc
the seal in the back of the tank blew

I marched back to petsmart right before date night began.
Told them and showed them my poor hutch. It lifted the finish and the top piece is all bowed out. It looks bad!

Anyways they said phone in to the store manager on Saturday as he will most likely pay to have it fixed!
Providing this happens I'll be impressed!

Bought a new tank, on sale!
I had saved the filter, put in a large ziplock with the old tank water.
Plus the water the babies were in from the tank.
I assembled the tank and put the old filter in, etc.

I bought the tank on Dec 14th so it's not like it's an old tank or anything.
Oh and picture me doing this, in heels and completly dressed up. Oh the fun!
All for my babies, er I mean my daughters fish (which I think I love more then she does, haha)

That's awful. But at least you managed to save everything, and not to mention looked good while doing it.

I'm thinking you are "grace under pressure" personified! Glad you were able to save the fish.

Let's go back 7 years to Christmas 2004.
I woke up fine, and was looking forward to spending the day with relatives.
By 10 am, I could barely move and was in the midst of full blown flu.
I managed to get to my parents house, 300 feet from mine and crashed in my old bedroom.

( Backstory, I had about a dozen tanks set up on my parents sunporch, 75 g and smaller.)

The relatives arrived and I spent the day sleeping.
About 2 pm, 4 year old Andy comes running into the living room, screaming, " IT'S RAINING!!"

Not knowing what the excitement was about, the adults followed him back to the sunporch.

To see that my 75G had let loose of about a foot of the front bottom seems of the front glass. The four adults rushed into action.

My mom started draining water out of the 75 into buckets.
My aunt started netting fish.
My uncle got more buckets from the storage shed.

And my dad carried me to the porch so I could tell them what plant/fish could go into what other tank.

I only lost 1 fish, a lamp eye tetra.

Anyone who has had this happens has my fullest sympathy.
