I think fake wood is always very obvious. It's also smoother and more like plastic, so there are no natural grooves for roots to grip to.

You could always use crazy glue to attach plants to decorations.

will java ferns and other plants bind easily to fake wood?

I don’t really know if the java fern would attach to a fake piece of wood.

I have Java fern that has already began to bind to some of the gravel in my aquarium, How would I "unattach" the java fern without hurting it? Or should I just leave it in the gravel. My one concern is that the gravel moves often and I am afraid that I will rip up the roots.
