Re-housing gourami

Hi!

Sadly my gourami's no longer are working with my Oscar. He is killing them left and right.

I will need to re-house them. Plan on giving them away. I do however have a 15 gallon tank only housing a Betta at the moment. I assume this tank is too small even for a single, or possibly pair, of fully grown gourami?
The remaining survivors are:
2 pearl gourami
2 blue gourami
1 gold gourami

All are aprox 4-5 years old.

Thanks!

The betta and the gouramis will not get along either and yes it is too small.

Too small even without the Betta?

If it is a choice between a 15 gallon tank or getting killed by the Oscar then I vote for the 15 gallon minus the Betta. I'm afraid simply moving them in with a Betta will be like moving them from the frying pan right into the fire. I fear either the Betta or one or more of the Gourami won't survive the mix. 5 of them in a 15 gallon may be a tight fit but sometimes we have to do what we have to do even if it isn't ideal. Hopefully you will find them a new home soon since I fear the tight quarters may cause them to turn on each other.

So honestly not something I can sustain for a good duration?

Could just give them away then

I have a bunch of gouramis in a 40b with a female betta. The betta seems rather unhappy and is probably moving to a grow-out tank, but it can be done with enough space. A male betta could be another story!

I'll just end upp giving them away. Don't want to keep just one, and 15 gallons seems too small for a pair?

I can't give a yes or no answer to this question. I wish I could. In some cases it might work but I fear 5 may be too many for the space. To be perfectly honest with you and I am sure there are lots of folks that won't agree with me but I would try it and see what happens if you have no other choice right now. If they have grown up together it is possible they will get along with each other. We just can't know how it is going to turn out.

Even for a single Gourami of these species this is too small.

These guys and girls are 4-5 years old. Just how big are they? I've not kept Gourami so I don't know how big each type grow. I may have been recommending trying to put 5 6 or 8 inch long fish in a 15 gallon tank. I should have asked. If that is the case then I suspect that couldn't last long term and yes, finding a new home sooner rather than later will be best. My main point was, is it better to keep them in a tank where an Oscar is killing them or move them to a 15 gallon tank at least temporarily. I will opt for the 15 gallon every time.

You could keep just one and they're generally fine - i think mine actually enjoy being alone! but i agree that 15 gallons is small for full grown pearl or 3 spot in the long run. It would be ok temporarily while you re-home them but its certainly not a good long term situation.

Depending on the sex they get 4-6 inches long and males are known to be very aggressive to other males especially in small tanks.

They are full size; 5-6 inches.

Got a new owner picking them upp tomorrow :) Will keep the Oscar extra well fed until then.

Cheers and thanks for the tips!

I am so happy to hear you have found a solution. With them being this big the 15 gallon would have not been a good place for them but still better than being killed by a tank mate. Hopefully the Oscar will play nice for just a few more hours. :)

They were all rehomed to a 80 gallon gourami tank :)

Might have been feeding a bit much now that the gourami's are gone, not sure if that's a factor.
But I have noticed some white poops on the ground. Not Stringy, just white. Some are half white half brown, some fully white. Do not know which fish they come from, but there are a lot of them. Atleast 5-10.
They crumble easily.

What could this be due to?

Edit:
I did give them zucchini last night, about 14 hours ago.

What goes in must come out and the color depends a lot on what went in. Zucchini coming out would be the lighter color.

Just thought 14h was fast, but maybe doable if one of them had faster digestion :)
