Re-cycle tank after being treated? Some fish beat the sickness, some died.

PlanetRock

Hi everyone,

I had a female Rainbow Kribensis who was 5 years old and time to go but something definitely killed her. I got her some tank mates after her hubby passed 6 months ago and for awhile all of the fish had long white stringy poop, even my otos.

I treated the tank twice with Prazipro and just recently with some fenbenzadole straight into the water column. Billy, my krib wasn’t and didn’t get better she passed away 2 days ago but the tetra survived and is pooping normal and is also in another tank now with other fish.

my main question is, do I have to clean everything out and restart the cycle?
what are your thoughts and opinions? I need the space for some bettas I bred.

thanks!

Water tests will tell you if you need to re-cycle. Certainly a possibility after treating with meds, some can really wreak havoc on your beneficial bacteria.

Thanks. I think I’m going to get rid of all of the water and clean the substrate and filter and everything in the tank.
Then I’m going add 10G of cycled water into it from my 60G. That way if there’s any bacteria or virus left behind at least I know I killed it.
