RCS breeding, who said this? babies versus tank size?

I can't remember where in the RCS thread I read about someone who posted that the shrimp can never outbreed the size of your tank??????

If anyone has any info on this, can you tell me where it was documented as such?

The reason I ask is, I have a 5 gallon ( QT tank ) and since about FEB, I have had at least 6 to 7 sets of babies - I still have at least 5-7 berried moms right now meaning each will probably have around 15-25 babies!
I don't see my RCs slowing down! Every week there is a new set of babies being born. I think I probably have at least 200 shrimp now

Now I am not complaining since all of them will eventually go to the lfs ( for store credit ) but I am interested in the article that says that they can't outbreed your tank.........

Thanks a bunch!

That's what I have read several times that they will breed to the capacity of the tank to feed them and house them and then when the shrimp decide it can't support a bigger population that they will stop breeding. Alison

Okay boy, I MUST be the exception to that theory then. It seems EVERYTHING breeds easily in my tank ( to an extreme ) and they don't stop.

Do you remember where you read that from?

No I don't started researching the red cherry shrimp on sales site and other forums and just info on the various types of shrimp and their diet, care, breeding, housing and also reading a lot of invert posts on our forum as well as many others. I tend to get a bit obsessive when researching new to me, critters. Alison

Thanks for the info - I am going to look that up as well.... Not that I mind right now but I am sure I have at least several hundred shrimp now and I don't see an end to this massive breeding! I am pretty sure some of the baby mama's are getting ready to breed and I already have several ready to drop! OH MY!

Well. They are bugs so as long as there's plenty of food and decent water parameters they'll have babies! Kinda cool really if you can get credit for them lr use as feeders for carnivorous fish. I'd like to set up a colony in my empty 2.5 gallon.

Junne I think there are some extra hormones in your water supply which why everything in your tank gets fruitful and multiplies. Alison

Oh I know that to be true! My tanks have always been fruitful for the past 6 years! Funny I can't seem to get plants in my tank to stay alive ( except moss and marimo's ) to save my life but even MTS snails that were in a dry sand tank in the garage for 4 months seem to come "back to life"

I have love shack waters! Go on,,, sing it!

All of my females are super red and I probably have like 50 or so males ( light striped )

Now you know ( oh I forgot to mention this! ) since you took the initiation, your tank will be as fruitful as mine now. Don't say I didn't warn you - I just wanted to pass on the secret to my success.................

I need one male.

Mine started breeding as early as 2 months old so if your males are around that age, they should start breeding and hopefully add some more to your stock

They will start breeding soon. If you lived closer to me, I'd give you some but I am not comfortable shipping and would only do local delivery.

Well I can safely say that this theory is not applicable in my tank as every square inch of my 5 gallon is covered in shrimp ( including the top part in moss that's covered with shrimp that you can't see ) and at least 5 pregnant females....
