Hello,

I was hoping to get some feedback on my tank. Had it about a year and a half and wanted to see what people think... Criticism if needed. Here is my list of stock;

2 juliI cories (rescues)
2 emerald cories (rescues)
5 harlequin rasboras
6 ember tetras
3 german blue rams
3 otos
1 SAE
A few Amano shrimp
1 nerite snail

Thanks in advanced!

Its a 29 gallon. Never been a fan of backgrounds. And plants are growing like crazy. I have to keep trimming them back. Thank you

Stocking-wise, I would rehome or remove some the animals. If I were you, I would keep one species of corydoras and up the numbers. I would again either keep the harlequins or tetras, not both. As for the algae eating animals, I would keep one species either the SAE, otocinclus, nerites, or amanos.

The stocking has already been mentioned so I won't repeat there.
This is just my opinion and style. More plants maybe like a couple really tall ones, floating plants and some annubias nana tucked in a few places. And the pagoda isn't my style but they exist because a lot of people do like them so do you! And I have to agree with the black background comment. I recently swapped and BEST change EVER. I used a poster board from a craft shop so it was super quick and I can take it down if I like.

Very nice tank! All that matters is that you are happy with your creation. As mentioned the compatibility of the fish is an issue. But you are the creator and as long as you like it, you are happy

I don’t typically like to rate tanks on a scale of numbers, but I think your tank looks pretty good!

However, I do agree with the others, some more plants and a background would definitely add to your existing scape.

What are those little glass cups with the gravel in them? I’m intrigued by them! They seem like they’re suspended mid-tank. I like!

They are called aquarium plant pots. They have suction cups on them and they had plants in them, but they died. I'm in the process of getting adding something else to them. Maybe some java ferns or some carpet plants...

I put ANUBIAS nana petite in those pots in my tanks and imo, they are perfect for them. And I have Xmas moss in two.

Well I got german blue rams for that... They are just a little young for that. I tried several bettas, but they all kept eating the bottom feeder food and getting super bloated

I had the same anubias, but they melted away.

Its been a very long time since I have done that test. I'd have to do it again to get accurate numbers, but if I remember correctly around 7.4. Why the question?

You mentioned some plants melting, some do better in hard water, some better in more acidic water. Was just curious.

ETA: I'm with some others here, I think it would look better with more visible plants. Maybe add some or allow the ones you currently have to get a little larger. Just my opinion.

I am probably going to add an Amazon sword or 2 to the mix, but I'm trying to look for plants that don't need special lights or CO2.

I know there are mixed opinions on these but I've had really good luck with the betta bulbs from Petco. They grow very quickly and easily under just LEDS for me.

You have a nice tank
Like your idea of sharing your work with everyone

I have a few little suggestions
1- put a background
Solid black or blurry white in my opinion
2- put the filter and heater in one side not in the middle
3- it’s definitely your personal opinion but you can put taller stuff on sides and make middle shorter
4- add more corydoras make them 6 at least
5- little by little gou can add more live plants easy plants such as anubias work so well
Fish need places to hide and play

Trying to do small changes in time makes you and the fish more amazed and happy
Good luck
Keep us posted

One more thing as you have small sponge filter( I have one same size in my 10g) I’m guessing your hob is a bit small for the tank but your stuck is not that much
However the bigger the better to some extent
Put hob and heater in one side and sponge in other side

The cories were rescues and I want to get more, but I don't want to give either species to a pet shop. I believe thwy will have a better life with me. The lid only has one spot for the HOB filter and its in the middle, and the sponge filter is only for extra filtration

I’ll agree with the background idea. I paint mine with black acrylic. Depending on your maintenance and filtration I’d add to the rasboraa and corys. Overall a nice looking tank and I dig the pagoda!

With my current stock... Do I have room to add more fish? I feel like I'm pretty close to being at max capacity

Again that depends on your filtration and maintenance schedule. A couple more corys and rasboras aren’t going to add a whole lot to the bioload and the fish will be happy to have a few more of their own to hang with. I personally aI'm for no more than four species in community tanks for that reason.

Rate my build 1-10.
It’s my first rank and aquascape. I wish I could afford more plants but I have to let nature fill it in for now.

I would probably rate it a seven right now. Why? I feel as though that sandy area near the left could use some more filling. And you could plant around the base of the wood. Other than that nice tank!

Thank you, I think once the plants grow in it’ll look a lot better!

Floating Plants-Red Root Floaters, Frogbit, Water Lettuce.
Mosses-Christmas, Java, Taiwan.
A few Anubias nana petite, a big anubia, two aponogetons, two hygrophyla, s repens, and a couple buce, rotala red, ludwigia, moneywort, and wisteria.

Pretty cool, I'm sure it will look good when it fills in some more

Tank looks great. The plants should fill in nicely. The aponogetons will grow big. What types do you have?

Hey, thank you for the advice I’ll see if I can work the substrate a little better.

8. If you let java moss grow all over the branch it will look much better. I would add some plants around the tip of the driftwood near the substrate and it will be pretty much perfect. Great job!

Yeah it’s gonna take some time to grow in, and I hope the different mosses look nice together.

When I grow up, I wanna be just like you!!!! I'm struggling with really nifty driftwood and ended up just storing it away in a box. It's been burning a hole in my tiny brain for months, because I can't think what to do with it. One day, Lol.....

Don't have good reference for giving it a 1 to 10 rating, but I am sure much better than the one I am working on will come out.

Don’t worry, it’ll come to ya eventually. I was luckily in the opposite position. I knew what I wanted my wood to look like and extremely luckily found a piece that was very close to my vision and size.

I have crispus in 2 different tank and it is a great grower. Mine have 20+ 16” leaves. So they grow big and will fill up a section of your tank. Put up a pick of the other I may be able to tell you what it is.
