Rate My Betta!

HI all! This is my betta boy, Reggie


He is my crowntail PetSense find from a little over a month ago. I am aware he isn't a show betta, but I would like y'all to discuss his flaws (head/body shape, fin shape, color) so that I can see! I know next to nothing about betta form and what is desired, so this will be a good learning experience for future buys. Thank y'all!!

I know the picture kind of sucks, but he hardly ever flares at his reflection in a mirror so this is the best I could do. I've only ever seen him fully flare with his fins completely extended once, and it was so cool. In this picture, he isn't really sticking his fins up all the way. I can try to get a better picture if yall need.

 

I'd give him a 5 on a scale of 10. Why a 5? Well his coloring isn't that spectacular...but its very nice....red and blue are very common colors. He has beautiful fins and hes is nicely proportioned. So I think he is quite a nice betta!

Thank you! Yeah he's a pretty commonly-colored boy, but I still love him. When I saw him at the store, he was so pale! He's colored up a ton

 

I'd rate him a 6, I love his fins and although blue and reds are common I love that color blue!

 

His tail seems to have that droop that many pet store CT have. The dorsal could be more errect but that just might be how he’s flairing. The colors are nice and vibrant.

Other than that his body shape is nice. So not bad, not great.

Yeah that's how he's flaring. He's lazy lol. What is the droop you're talking about?

 

At the top of the tail fin it may droop, sorta like how a VT would. What I look for in a good CT is the tail spread to be symmetrical and more like a HM’s spread.

 

Hello, as long as you are enjoying the time that you are putting into caring and making sure he’s healthy, nothing else matters apart from that.
I have always said that judging a betta really isn’t what matters unless you are specifically keeping or breeding them for show, it is what is on the inside that counts.

I absolutely agree! I love him to bits, and he even eats from my hand and lets me pet him to an extent. Not scared of my hand at all, he just swims right up to it! He's been such a joy and super friendly. I was just curious as to what someone who knows more about what a betta is supposed to look like has to say to better educate myself
