10 Gallon Tank Randy The Escape Artist

soooo Randy is my mystery snail. We have quite the history...
in the beginning he was meant to live in the 40 gallon I have, but due to PH issues in that tank I have moved him to my small tank where the ph is less acidic, and better for his little shell.
Well
I dropped him when he was a baby. Luckily, he recovered. He was in a plastic bag, he seemed shocked but ok.
Saturday he tried to escape my betta tank! He knocked the lid right off my filter, that’s how I heard him so I was able to stop him. So I put him back and on we went. Today I came home from class and I could not find him. I saw him before I left, about six, and then got home around nine thirty. I knew he probably escaped at that point. I finally found him behind the tank stand and luckily (maybe lucky) he was on his back and water was still in his shell so he stayed moist. I have since put him back with my lady betta, and he has come out and he is moving but he does have a large crack in his shell and his face has white... like dried skin on it.

Has anyone else ever had something like this happen? What can I do to help his recovery? This poor guy. I just want to do anything I can to make his recovery the best it can be.

This is my worry with owning snails! I always wonder if they’ll somehow find a way out. Sorry I’m not of much help but here’s a post bump to hopefully catch the attention of somehow who will be!

I had a snail that one day decided it didn’t want to live in my tank anymore, even after laying many batches of eggs in years prior. Found it on the ground the first time and then random places EVERYDAY since. Eventually I determined I wasn’t good enough for the snail so I returned it to my LFS. She’s in a pond now so I guess her plan worked lol. Needless to say, I wouldn’t be surprised if your snail tries to leave that betta tank again.

With mysteries it helps to keep the water level 1-2 inches low as they like to get out of the water from time to time. I had 3 of the little ones survive 3 days out of water when the 150 tall failed. They were in drift wool that was removed. I found them closed up tight in a little group. It took them 20 min in the water and they opened up. After several weeks seem to be fine.

Best wishes for your little one. Are you adding anything for calcium? Many of us use cuttle bones.

I have really only had one snail and it was a nerite racing snail. I mean for a snail this one was fast, I would have bet money on him against racing anybodies snails. He was rather large, pure black shell and the only snail left at the Petsmart store that day. I put him in a ten gallon with Clint my Betta. I had to watch him like a hawk all he did was try and get out, well I left for a couple of days for a funeral (I live by myself.) I came home and you guessed it he was long gone, I searched in vain for him and never found him again. Until one day when I had to do a sort of clearing out of Clint's tank moving it and everything else in the area of the ten gallon tank and that is when I found his shell tucked up underneath a large book shelve.

I give them broccolI ☺️ I’ve thought about adding something but I’ve seen so many mixed reviews
