Ramshorn snail dead or alive?

So I recently got 5 ramshorns (at least they were categorized as ramshorns since I'm aware that my area tends to mistyped snails), and put them into a small glass jar (last tank broke). These are my first and I do rather frequent water changes, about 50% each four days. Recently the water smells weird (different from how it smelled before) and it's kind of like what you'd smell with preserved eggs. I'm not sure if it's the dead snail stink I've seen a lot of people talk about, so I checked all my snails. I smelled them and they all smell like that, but four of them are clearly alive since they're moving around or retract into their shell when I touch them. The last one didn't react much so I isolated it and (see photo) it's been staying like this on its side for a while. I'm not sure it's dead or not, it does seem to move a little bit but mostly just lies there. I'm not sure if it is dead, I'll check to see if it has moved in the morning, and if it is dead then do I need to perform water changes for my remaining snails? They smell too!
Also, I took a photo yesterday (the second photo), before the water started smelling, there's a translucent thing on one of the leaves. I checked and it wasn't an air bubble, but I'm quite sure it's not am egg as well since snail eggs are in a cluster. So what is it? And did it possibly cause the water to smell? I have no clue, please help! Thanks!

Sorry, but is almost certainly dead- and that could actually be an egg! double check before you get rid of them both

Trust me you will 100% know the dead snail smell when you experience it. Its awful, like rotten eggs mixed with hot garbage and dead fish. You will gag and it will burn.

I don't think the snail is dead if its moving but it might be on its way out. I'd recommend doing bigger changes for the rest of the snails.

The bump could be eggs.

cold garbage has a pretty mild smell whereas hot garbage rots and molds super fast and smells 10× worse than normal waste.

Standing water with snail waste in it can get to smelling pretty bad. My ramshorns live in a 2.5 gallon jar with an airstone running in it and pothos growing out the top. There is never a bad smell in the jar. Your snail could be dead or you may need to change the water daily. What you are feeding them could be causing the smell too. Some veggies get to smelling pretty bad after a while under water.

It's alive! I checked this morning and the little guy has been climbing around and chomping on the leaf I gave him. I put him back with the others and it's obvious now that the smell isn't from dead snails.
I haven't seen the translucent thing a while now, so I'm not sure where it went, it wasn't on the plant this morning.

This is a different smell from snail waste (I've learnt that firsthand when I took too long in changing their water), but it could definitely be the veggies. I fed them a piece of blanched carrot about two days ago and assumed they would finish it since they did so within like a day before. I think typically I should remove the uneaten food within a day?

I know when I remove the remains of the zucchinI I feed my plecos it smells really really bad so it could very well be the veggies causing what you are experiencing. I have so many ramshorns in my snail jar food doesn't last long enough to get to that stage.

I think I found what's causing the smell; it's likely a combination of the eggshells and some older veggies/snail poop. Thanks for the help and I definitely have to find some way of using a calcium source that doesn't have a smell like that.....or maybe I was too careless when removing the eggshell membranes, since I do that by hand.

My snails main diet is iceberg lettuce. From what I have read they get some calcium from it but I also add Equilibrium to their water. I also keep a seashell in their jar and about once a month drop in a calcium tablet. I hadn't thought about adding egg shells. I can see where they could help with calcium but could also add to a bad odor if not cleaned really well.

My ramshorn snails also get a variety of other foods. Veggie rounds, shrimp pellets, algae wafers and occasionally crisps or flakes. I feed them zucchinI occasionally but find it clouds the water more than anything else I feed them so usually feed it the day before water change day. I feed them well to keep them breeding.

Boil a piece of spinach, I've read that's great for the snail bros.

What calcium tablets do you use? And how does the seashell help with the calcium, does it slowly release calcium into the water flow? Also are the shrimp pellets a sufficient source of protein? Since I've heard protein definitely helps with snail but it'll be a while before I'm in town so I'm wondering if there are any other sources.

I give them an Equate Antacid tablet (peppermint flavored) usually twice a month and they all pile on to get their share. Other folks offer Tums. The main ingredient in these products is calcium carbonate. I used to keep a piece of cuttlebone in their tank but never saw the snails pile on it like they do these tablets.

Yes, the seashell very slowly dissolves. I actually use them and crushed coral to help keep my PH stable. I may not need them now that I use Equilibrium but still have them in the jar anyway. I figure it can't hurt.

I have to think what I am feeding my snails must be good enough for them. I never find dead ones in my jar and they are constantly making more. Algae wafers and veggie rounds have a fairly good percentage of protein as do shrimp pellets so even if you offer just one of the products I regularly feed my snails I feel your snails will get the protein they require.
