Ramhorn Rampage

So.. I don't think there is a way to stop this.. but my ramhorn snails won't stop laying eggs. I know that they can fertilize they're own eggs and lay them...everywhere. in a quarenteen tank we have eight ramhorns who have laued about 60 egg pods now. They will be out of quarenteen soon, were just strenghtening their shells right now. A few weeks ago we had to use a turkey baster to take about 30 snail eggs out... If anyone can find a way to fix this that would be fantastic.

Yeah, they reproduce very quickly.
There’s no way to make them stop laying, but you can control them.

Yeah, really no way to stop it. You could feed them less and they probably won't lay eggs. Do you want to save the eggs or not care?

That what I suspected... I get to deal with 5 ramhorns spewing eggs left and right all over my tank... Yayy... And people say nerite snail reproduce dramatically Hah!

One egg pods is enough.. it break my heart to have snails die, but I'll have to let my fish eat em.

Well, if you only want one egg pod just wait until you put them back in the main tank and they will breed there. I felt the same way about snails when I first got mine, now I have Soo many

We're going to have to use one of my old snail tank for breeding now, ha! On the bright side we may have purple ramhorns!

Nerite snails do not successfully reproduce in FW, but they do lay a lot of eggs!

She said ramshorn, they are possibly the most prolific breeders ever. Once you give them food like 1 green been a day, you will have a million

Once your ramshorns hatch, either get a pea puffer or a couple of assassin snails. In my opinion, use the assassin snails. They'll eat a significant number of snails in no time. If you plan on getting rid of your ramshorns, just allow Mother Nature to take over and eradicate your population.
When it comes to snail choices, I personally recommend nerite snails. They cannot reproduce without certain conditions, and will lay unfertilized eggs that will never really hatch (like chickens). They come in all shapes and sizes, and do not have any antennae that stick out for any fish to mistake as food. They're also a killer at removing algae on your aquarium. They will leave your plants alone.

Looking at your profile, I'm a bit concerned about The well-being of your fish. Would you care to inform me of your tank size and it's inhabitants? Also, do you know about the nitrogen cycle and do you have a heater?

Introduce some assassin snails ramshorn snails are defenseless against these snails so probably they can control their number or even destroy them forever

I think she wants to keep the snails, just not have babies. If she wanted them gone why would she give them a tank to strengthen their shells.

How I control snails in my 33 is by clown loaches. I have two of them. This is just a growout and then they will go into a filter pond with a whole lot of snails! Actually forget what I said in the first sentence. Getting clown loaches is a snail genocide.

I tried to stop my Ramshorns laying eggs. So I decided to keep just one.

However, even without mating it would still lay infertile eggs.

Withdrawing food caused the snail to shrink so this was not a good solution either.

I therefore stopped keeping them.

*one by itself

I'm not sure what you're saying. Female nerites produce a lot of eggs, even without males in the tank. However, they won't hatch. They don't reproduce dramatically in most tanks (i.e. all Freshwater tanks). That was my point.
