rainbows with possible fin rot

my 50 gallon tank has 9 rainbows and i've noticed over the past few weeks that some of their fins are looking a bit fraid. unfortunately my water changes have not been kept up with so the water quality has suffered. Might this be fin rot? Any suggestions for treating this? the tank also has 6 kulI loaches. should I skip medications and just up the water changes or does fin rot need a medication to fix it?

water changes are the best remedy for fin rot. Depending on the severity, you might want to use some meds too.

anything you would suggest that wouldn't be too harsh? I would probably need to treat the whole tank since at least 4 of the 9 have noticeable issues. How about melafix (the tank has kulI loaches)?

I don't really deal with meds, so I don't know what to tell you. I suppose melafix or pimafix would be good - not sure which would be best for fin rot though.

Melafix would be good if it's not severe with daily water changes. VitaChem is also great for healing up tattered fins or split fins.

I would try daily water changes first personally as it sounds not too bad. Just improving hygiene will help a lot since you've slacked a little on water changes. Adding VitaChem as well if you can find it. Water conditioner like Stress Coat or something with a slime coat aid.
