Rainbowfish potential tank mates?

Does anyone keep these? I have one and have looked for pics online to determine which rainbow he is, and the closest one resembling mine is an Australian Rainbowfish - but the colors on mine are very light and faded..not bright and beautiful like the pictures! I plan on getting 3 or 4 more since I've read they are schooling fish. I'm wondering what other tank mates he will like? This is a 90g. Thanks in advance for any advice,

Denise

Hi, I think I read somewhere that boff keeps rainbows. Why don't you try and PM him or something.

Click on the link below. It's all about rainbowfish and the different species. I can spend hours on this site:

This is a great site to determine which rainbowish you have as well as to research other rainbows that you'd perhaps like to get:

thanks Iabella! I checked your site, and although mine isn't as bright as the one pictured, (maybe it is a female?) it seems to be an Australian Rainbow. That site Gunnie listed is awesome! Have got to have more time to read it all... this fish is a lot of fun! I got a python syphon (the bucket brigade was too much for me, as I have a crippled right hand/arm, and the 20 gallon was already killing me - much less the 90g! lol ! ) and when I was sucking up some of the gravel this fish started getting really excited - darting up to the syphon repeatedly, then swimming off, then watching me,then attacking again! I wonder if he could see the gravel flipping around down there and thought it was a yummy shrimp or something? lol
love those fishies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI I know what you mean about them not looking as bright and colourfull as the pictures that you look at .The trouble is the ones in the pictures are from relay good breeding stock and most of the fish in the shops are just breed for money not for quality.
Take the BosemanI on the link at livaquaria.com the colours are stunning with the blue head half and orange tail end ,mine are nothing like that the colours look all washed out .
Have a look at this forum its all about Rainbows .
They where talking about this auction site that's in the US and saying about the quality of the fish was relay good if you don't mind they be posted to you .
all the best boff

hI boff, I am now officially a bowhead! thanks for the scoop! also, I went to aquabid and looked at the rainbows that guy in California has for sale...nice! but it looks like you have to buy 6 at a time, and I'll have to save up some big bucks for the fish + shipping :-\ I was hoping once mine settled down in her new home, and the parameters were good she would get more colorful, but she's not... at least I think she is a female...still not good at sexing most fish!
