One of my Bosmani rainbow fish is at the top moving his mouth non stop and not eating. I don't understand what's wrong with him

The first few photos, the bosemani in them has a funny shape at the front under the mouth. Not sure what it is, could be a blockage/obstruction or it could have eaten something to big for it. Not sure how to help sorry but it does look off.

Yes , it does have a strange shape. I feel as though he is dying. :( I don't know what to do but I do know he is extremely stressed and not looking good

Yes it doesn't look good unfortunately. If you do some research online there are some common methods for trying to remove obstruction/blockage/constipation - I think an epsom salt bath is one of them. I did see a fish eat a small pebble/stone once and couldn't spit it out, had a round blockage. But I don't think rainbows would do that given where they swim and how they eat.

Were there any small fish, snails or other critters in the tank it might have eaten or tried to eat? Any pellet or prepared food should have broken down by now.

Maybe fry from my guppy? Other than that no. Pellets I soften because they are hard. He just keeps opening and closing his mouth and moving his gills. I don't think he will make it. I will have to lay him away. I've never done it before and it sounds horrific

I think the best thing you can do is use Clove Oil (if it's available where you are). You can catch him, put him in a small container/bucket (never put the oil in the tank) and slowly add drops until he ''falls asleep''. It's unfortunate but it looks like it might be the most responsible choice also. Sometimes fish just get old or sick and there's nothing that can be done, like with us humans.

Once the fish has passed the best thing to do is to dispose of them in your green/compost waste or regular waste. Some people might also bury them in the yard/garden or compost them at home. The only thing you shouldn't do is flush the fish or dispose of it in a local waterway.
