Hi..., I have a rainbow shark and 3 female guppies and I want to get a couple males and some more females tomorrow. I don’t see any aggression as of yet but he’s only been in this tank for about two weeks....
1 I’m wondering if anyone has successfully kept them two together ?
And suggestions for another schooling fish..(that works with rainbow sharks)

Thank you

1. I keep guppies (amongst others) in a tank with a rainbow shark. They get on just fine as the guppies stay towards the top and the rainbow shark towards the bottom.

2. How big is the tank? Other schooling fish suggestions are dependant upon size and dimensions.

36 gal bowfront I don’t know the exact dimensions right now

I think it’s 32 long 15 wide and 21 high

I wouldn't do rainbow sharks in this tank size.

It is starting to get territorial but it super cute ... guess I was hoping for a mild tempered one. I’m planning on taking it to my lfs and get a crayfish maybe.?

Ok I went and bought 2 female blue gouramis is that a good idea? I thought they were pearls but turns out they were blue gourami ( three spot ). Would one male and two females be a problem or shouldn’t I have bought two females in the first place. Also how will they fare with my guppies???

I wouldn't do a rainbow shark in a tank that size unless you planned on upgrading it to a larger tank in a year. Otherwise as they reach maturity they tend to get rather mean if they don't feel they have enough space.

I'm not a crayfish person so I can't offer advice there.

The gourami may get along if there is plenty of cover and hides when they get grumpy and get around to chasing each other. Or one may relentlessly pick on the other. It has been my experience with three spots that you either want one, a trio (two females and one male) or more than six of them to spread aggression. However your tank is not big enough for that many three spot gourami. I would stick with a single gourami in this size tank with guppies. A trio is pushing it size wise and I suspect as a trio they may also eat your guppies. The adult ones.

Will they eat fry? More than likely. This can be reduced by having lots of plant cover to give the fry places to hide.
