I described them as being for an american tank and called them rainbow. Cochlids, he says they call them compriceps....

were they at one time called that or does he think imtalking about some african or what?

I'd say the guy doesn't know anything about Cichlids at all. I would not be considering buying any from him. Or at least, I'd make sure I knew what it was, even if he doesn't.

Cryptoheros cutterI is another convictoid fish from Central America, one of the spilurus complex. Rainbows have always had the same species name, the genus has changed a couple of times recently, but is currently back to the original Herotilapia multispinosa.

Yeah, that's why I'm confused.
maybe hes using out of date terms?

No, he's just using the wrong terms. At no time have either of those names he gave you been associated with the Rainbow Cichlid.

Yeah I mean maybe the terms of blue eye, not rainbow, but confusing itwith rainbow. Anyway il

Blue Eye is often used for the spilurus group. Rainbows were originally called Golden Red Eyes, as the original imports did have very red eyes. Not sure when or why the name Rainbow came into use.

Yeah that's sort of a mystery. I'm hoping hes only temproarily mixed up and gets the right thing, but its out of my hands for now.
I'm guessing maybe because theyve both been identified as archocentrus and had their names changed a gillion times, I don't know. Il post back in a week withthe final answer

everyone make your bets on what it will be!

You said he called them something like 'copriceps', could he have meant Laetacara curviceps, the Flag Acara? Not that they get called Rainbows though...

I don't know. I specifically asked for rainbows though, so I have no clue what he was talking about.
