Hi, new member here. Been keeping fish a long time but have only just got into the wanderful world of rainbowfish recently which i intend on breeding.
My question is at what size or age do they start breeding? cant seem to find any information online about it so would love to hear peoples experience with it.
The rainbows i have are red rainbows and melanotaenia trifasciata (coen river).
    Thanks.

Melanotaenia species can start breeding as small as 2". They are very slow growers so about a year or two.

I've bred Praecox and currently raising some M Trifasciata fry. Gary Lange has excellent tips for hatching and raising rainbowfish.

These M Trifasciata fry are about 3 months old.
