Rabbit snail tank size?

So my question is, what tank size does a rabbit snail need? How big is the bioload? I have a 10 gallon with a colony of snails and a betta and I was wondering if 10 gallons was too small? (I am getting lots of mixed information online).

Tank: 10 gallon planted.

Stocking: 1 male plakat betta, 3 mystery snails, 2 nerites and some ramshorns.

Perimeters: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite,
5-10 ppm nitrates, ph 8.0

Thx

Rabbit snails vary from modest sized 1 inch long species to giants that can approach 5 inches long...the answer will depend on which species you are referring to (obviously the 5 inch lunkers do not belong in a 10 gallon).

I do not know how much bioload an appropriately sized rabbit snail has, but I do know that mystery snails are a significant addition to the bioload and you have three of them. Also, rabbit snails often resort to eating softer plant varieties in the aquarium and may thus damage your aquascape. I am not sure adding any rabbit snails to this tank would work well for you.

I have a 3 female rabbits in a 10gal with their handful of babies, a fresh spawn of bettas and a few shrimp. I have no intention of keeping this permanent of course, more of a rearing/breeding tank. I’m hoping to reseal a 20gal long and use it for my fancy snails and shrimp this spring.

In your case I feel you are already pretty well stocked. Mystery snails are probably the messiest snails available and rabbits will poo a ton too.

As for the aquascape, it’s a mess anyway and my mystery snails do munch on my plants so that wouldn’t change much, lol. But if a rabbit would be too much for the tank then I won’t get one. Thx. Any ideas of a new snail I could get? Recently one of my nerites got stuck between the heater and the glass and couldn’t turn around cause he’s a nerite. I didn’t notice till to late RIP. it was depressing so I was shopping around for a replacement for him and I wanted to try something new. I love rabbit snails so I decided to ask, but I guess a rabbit wouldn’t really work. Any ideas for a snail I could get that won’t have the same issue?

Is the black devil snails the same? Isn’t that is the rabbit snails family? From what I could find it’s a little better suited for my tank, but I don’t know.

Also, does anyone have information of Japanese trapdoors? Are those to much for my tank to? It’s hard to find info on those. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Japanese trapdoor snails are as large or larger than mystery snails, and with your tank's bioload adding one may not end well for your setup. Similar with the black devil snails.

Most rabbit snail species sold in stores can grow up to 3 in. They also don’t need to eat as much as mysteries and nerites, but they still produce a similar amount of waste (don’t eat much, poop a lot). Your tank is already well-stocked so I’m not sure if a rabbit snail would be a good addition. However, if you choose to add one, feel free to reach out! It’s your tank to stock and we’d love to help you take care of them
